Summary

AMinecraftupdate added an exciting new feature, armor trims, an item that allows the player to customize their armor. It adds a different pattern that varies for each armor trim that is applied.

The armor trims can be found in a wide range of different structures, with each one having its specific design. To apply these to the armor, the gamer requires asmithing table. What is amazing about this is that depending on the gem used, the trim on the armor will reflect that color. The items that can be used and what color they would become are as follows: Iron (grey), copper (bronze), Gold (gold), Lapis Lazuli (blue), Emerald (green), Diamond (light blue), Netherite (black), Redstone (red), Amethyst (purple) and Quartz (white).

Smithing Template Minecraft

Updated on July 02, 2025, by Ben Painter:Minecraftis a game that will not die. There are hundreds of things to do in the game which will keep fans plenty busy. One thing to do is to collect everySmithing Templatein the game; these will reward fans with armor trims that can be fully customized using a wide variety of different materials found in Minecraft. Since this article was originally published, a new Smithing Template is required to upgrade Diamond into Netherite armor, unlike previous updates where one was not needed. If players want the best armor in the game, then they will need to locate at least one of the Netherite Smithing Templates. This update shows gamers exactly where to find each template. Fear not, if the player can only find just one then they can be duplicated in the game, however, it will only add that one style to the armor.

17Netherite Upgrade Template

Location: Bastion Remnants

When Netherite was first announced, gamers could just add a Netherite Ingot onto the piece of armor or tool using a Smithing Table. But this was changed to make Netherite even harder to acquire, as gamers must now find a Netherite Upgrade Template, which can be found in the Bastion Remnants in the Nether dimension.

The Nether is a tricky place to maneuver, but it will be worth it for players to have the best armor in the game. To duplicate this template, players will need 9 diamonds, 1 piece of netherrack, and, of course, an existing Netherite Upgrade Template.

Sentry Armor Trim

16Sentry

Location: Pillager Outpost

The Sentry Armor Trim can be found in aPillager Outpost, this trim is one of the tamer designs featuring just a band around the arms, helmet and boots.

Pillar Outposts aren’t too hard to find, so this one should be a walk in the park to locateonce the update rolls around. However, they may cause some issue for new players, the pillagers are a tough crossbow wielding mob, the captain who wears a banner will activate a raid effect, bear that in mind. The player only needs to find one, and then they can be replicated, in this case, it requires 1 block of cobblestone, 7 diamonds and the template.

Dune Armor Trim

15Dune

Location: Desert Pyramids

This Armor Trim adds a little more to the design, adding a little more color to the armor, especially on the chest plate. This one can be found inDesert Pyramids.

Be careful to avoid those TNTs when searching through the hidden underside of the pyramid. In the quest to locate all the smithing templates, this one should also be easy, as Desert Temples are pretty easy to find as they pop up in most desert biomes. Fitting with this sandy theme, gamers need 1 block of sandstone along with the template and 7 diamonds to duplicate.

Coast Armor Trim

14Coast

Location: Shipwrecks

Shipwrecksare a fairly common structure located in the depths ofMinecraft’s oceans. Hidden in some sailor’s watery grave is this Armor Trim. The Coast one is only found in these Shipwrecks, be aware of the down that lurk around these structures as they pose a threat armed with their tridents.

This armor trim looks perfect, adding thick bands around the armor, and it will look perfect with Lapis Lazuli or Diamond to further add to the ocean theme. Cobblestone is the block required to duplicate this template.

Wild Armor Trim

13Wild

Location: Jungle Temples

The Wild Armor Trim adds a band around the armor, which really makes it pop but doesn’t overdo it. Gamers will need to head into the jungles and find aJungle Templeto locate this template.

If gamers are lucky enough to find one, then they will need the template, seven diamonds, and a block of mossy cobblestone to recreate this. This is the case with every template, but the only thing that changes is the base block. It matches the color scheme of the template, so it will not be too hard to work out what is required.

Tide Armor Trim

12Tide

Location: Ocean Monuments

This design adds a nice pattern around the armor, making it look like some sort of ancient Atlantean attire. This is very fitting as this template is only found inOcean Monuments. These are very rare to find in the game, so make sure to keep an eye out in the vast oceans for the temple that is located on the sea floor.

Watch out for the Elder Guardian when searching. If gamers can defeat this boss, then they are rewarded with a smithing template. To replicate these, gamers will need a block of prismarine as well as 7 diamonds and the original template.

Ward Armor Trim

11Ward

Location: Ancient Cities

The Ward is named so after the Warden, the boss of theAncient Cities, the location of this Armor Trim. The armor itself adds a nice square in the center of the chest plate to mimic the pattern on the Warden’s chest.

Ancient Cities are deep inMinecraft’s underworld, look out for skulk when digging and gamers will find one quickly enough. The Warden is insanely strongand is not meant to be fought but avoided when sneaking around the city. The Ward template should be found in a chest. The block to replicate this one is a piece of cobbles deepslate.

Vex Armor Trim

10Vex

Location: Woodland Mansions

Found in one of the game’s hardest structures to find, theWoodland Mansionis where the player will locate the Vex. The design itself is a unique one as it makes the armor look like the mob it is named after, the Vex. Netherite armor with iron trim will make this one look the most like a Vex.

A piece of cobblestone is the block required to make multiple copies of this one, and gamers will need a duplicate as Woodland Mansions are so scarce in the game.

Rib Armor Trim

9Rib

Location: Nether Fortresses

Found inNether Fortresses, the Rib armor is a nod to the Wither Skeletons located in the Nether. It adds a decent design which makes it skeletal in nature, but it doesn’t go over the top with it.

A block of netherrack is what is required to copy this template, something gamers will need to do as they are only one use. The Rib armor is the only one that requires a Netherrack, which is annoying as there are lots of it with no other real use.

Snout Armor Trim

8Snout

Location: Bastion Remnant

Found only in aBastion Remnant, the Snout Armor Trim is a reference to the snout of the Piglin’s and the armor itself takes some inspiration from the design of the mod. Piglins are friendly to the player, but only if they are wearing any piece of gold armor. But they will be angry if gamers loot through their chests as well.

Bastions are located in the Netherand are very tough to get through, but it will all be worth it to find this rare item and many other treasures. To replicate this one, gamers will require a piece of blackstone along with the other usual ingredients.
