While it was originally leaked months ago, BioWare has now officially announcedMass Effect: Legendary Edition, which remasters the original threeMass Effectgames for modern audiences.Mass Effect: Legendary Editionwill upgradeMass Effect 1,2, and3to support up to 4K resolution, with improved frame rates and textures, as well as upgraded character models, shaders, and effects to ensure the best-possible visual experience.

Additionally,Mass Effect: Legendary Editionwill also include all of the single-player DLC and promotional items that were released for the original games. No mention was made regardingMass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode, but it would be surprising to see it in theLegendary Edition. Regardless,Mass Effect: Legendary Editionshould be the definitive way to experience the trilogy, as it will allow players to experience the BioWare’s epic science-fiction story in its entirety. Anyone excited to revisit the classic games should note thatMass Effect: Legendary Editionwill launch spring 2021.

As far asMass Effect: Legendary Editionplatforms go, the collection is so far only confirmed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. With both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launching next week, it seems a bit odd that BioWare has left those consoles out of the loop. However, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are both backward compatible with PS4 and Xbox One games, soMass Effect: Legendary Editionwill still be playable on the new hardware. And whileBioWaredidn’t provide specifics, it’s been confirmed that playingMass Effect: Legendary Editionon PS5 and Xbox Series X will come with some additional enhancements. Whether or not an official next-gen version ever materializes remains to be seen, however.

TheMass Effect: Legendary Editionreveal isn’t the only way BioWare is celebrating N7 Day this year. It also confirmed that anewMass Effectgameis in active development, being worked on by some members of the original team. Not only that, but theMass Effectcast will reunite for a special presentation later today. HardcoreMass Effectseries fans should be sure to tune in, just in case there are some extra surprises in store.

Between theMass Effectcast reunion specialand theLegendary Editionannouncement, fans of the sci-fi RPG franchise should be able to celebrate this year’s N7 Day in style. The newMass Effectgame in development is exciting as well, though with BioWare busy withDragon Age 4and fixingAnthem, it will likely be some time before it ever sees the light of day.
