When one thinks of video game franchises that feature characters with spectacular hair, series likeFinal FantasyorKingdom Heartsare probably the first to come to mind. One might not think ofThe Legend of Zeldaseries, which (at least by Japanese standards) leans toward a more grounded take on thefantasy genrethan the aforementioned series.

Nonetheless, the series has introduced more than its fair share of eccentric hairdos. These range from being loud,physics-defying, or simply bizarre. A strange hairstyle can often enhance good character design and make an NPC more memorable, these characters embody this notion.
10Groose
No list of spectacular hair in theZeldaseries would be complete without a mention ofGroosefromThe Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Groose is notable for sporting a massive red pompadour which seemingly defies the laws of gravity.
One can only assume that buckets of hair gel must have gone into this particular fashion statement. It also perfectly matches Groose’s characterization early in the game: cocky, vain, and proud. However, throughout the course of the game, he ends up going through one of the most significant character arcs of any NPC in the series.

9Midna
Hailing fromThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, at first glance, Midna’s hair might not seem all that remarkable, just a basic orange-colored ponytail. But those who have played the game will know that Midna has the ability to control her hair as if it were an extra limb.
Her prehensile hair is capable of forming a hand that can grab and pull Link into areas of twilight as well as cast a magic field spell. In theHyrule Warriorsspin-off series, Midna’s hair is given even more utility as she often uses it in offensive attacks.

8Farore
Not to be confused with the Golden Goddess of the same name, Farore appears as the oracle of secrets in the two Oracle games forGame Boy Colorwhere she reveals secrets obtained from linking the two titles together. While it might not be very noticeable on the low-resolution Game Boy Color screen, one look atofficial artworkreveals that Farore is rocking bright green hair styled into a pair of massive space buns.
Each bun is easily larger than her actual head and seems to defy gravity. How such a hairstyle is even possible is one secret that has never been revealed.

7Veran
Another character for the Oracle titles, Veran the Sorcerer of Shadows was the primary antagonist fromThe Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. In this game, she attempted to disrupt the flow of time by possessing the eponymous Nyru and using her powers to travel into the past and alter key events.

Veran is definitely one of the most stylish villains that Link has had to face and this extends to her hair which is styled in the shape of a scythe. This look perfectly compliments her alluring yet deadly personality. No doubt copious amounts of black magic must be needed to maintain the structural stability of this hairstyle.
6Mrs. Marie
A school teacher living on Windfall Island, Mrs. Marie is known for her love of joy pendants and her unusual hairstyle. Not only is her hair a bright pink color that is unlike anyone else in the game, but it is also styled in an unusual way that makes it look like a giant butterfly.
According to the in-game text from her figurine, she apparently invented this hairstyle herself. One can certainly appreciate the creativity behind this as well as how it matches the butterfly motif of the Joy pendants that she loves so much.

5Madame Aroma
Originating fromThe Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Madame Aroma is the wife of the mayor of Clock Town and the mother of Kafei. While there is much that can be said about Madame Aroma, one of her most striking features is her unusual hairdo.
Roughly shaped like an ankh her hair features a large loop on top with two pieces extending on each side. The whole thing seems to defy gravity and physics, yet oddly fits her character design which is overall rather gaudy.

4Carpet Merchant
When visiting the haunted wasteland for the first time inThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeone might be confused by the sight of what appears to be a small tent sitting on top of a magic carpet. However, closer inspection reveals that this is not a small tent but instead a man with extremely long hair.
The carpet merchant is one of the more enigmatic characters fromOcarina of Time. His hairstyle is more reminiscent of those worn by hippies in late 1960s America than anything worn by the people of Hyrule. It even covers his eyes and connects to a thick mustache, preventing players from seeing much of his face.

3Falbi
Falbi is a clown who is the owner and operator of the Flight-by-Foul mini-game at Lake Hylia inThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. As a clown, one would expect that he would have eccentric hair.

Falbi does not disappoint, not only is his hair a bright red, but it is also styled in a fashion that brings to mind the onion domes of Russian, and Middle Eastern architecture. This, combined with his red goatee, creates the impression that Falbi’s head is on fire.
2Coro
One of three siblings with afros inThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Coro lives in the southern portion of Faron Woods where he operates a business selling lamp oil.
While there are numerous characters throughout the Zelda series who sport large afros, what makes Coro’s so special is the fact that birds have actually turned this hairdo into a nest that they roost within. It is not clear whether or not Coro is aware of this fact, or whether he simply tolerates them.

1Impa
Throughout most of the series Impa was not known for having very spectacular hair, but this all changed inThe Legend of Zelda: Skyward Swordwhen it was revealed that the old woman guarding the temple of the goddess was in fact Impa. Due to complicatedtime travelshenanigans, the younger version of Impa that players were introduced to ends up spending centuries in the temple of the goddess.
During this time, she seems to have refused to cut her hair as she is now sporting an absolutely massive braid that would put even Repunzel to shame. Said braid is wrapped around her head, worn like a hat, and even covers her eyes, ultimately ending with a large braided knot at the end.
