THQ Nordic’s become something of a home for orphaned franchises. The publisher brought fans the remaster of Volition’sRed Faction: Gorillain 2019andKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoninglast year. That promise just came a bit closer to becoming a reality, with THQ Nordic officially announcing the release date forKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning’sfirst DLC. Fans of the semi-open world action-RPG can jump into the newForeswornexpansion starting Tuesday, December 14.

THQ Nordic announced theFateswornexpansion in 2020, the same time the publisher announcedKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. However, the publisher avoided giving away too much about the upcoming DLC, only giving snippets of information. Even whenTHQ offered fans their first look atFateswornin September, the studio provided little more than a screenshot and the local lore of one in-game town. Apart from that, all that fans knew was thatFateswornserves as an Epilogue forKingdoms of Amalurand adds about five hours of new gameplay.

Fortunately for those curious, today’s announcement also contains information about the upcoming DLC. According to the post on THQ’s website,Fatesworntakes place after the player defeats main villain Gadlow at the end ofKingdoms of Amalur’smain story. However, a new threat is rising in the form of Telogrus, the God of Chaos. To stop him, players must journey west to the new land of Mithros.

THQ previously indicated thattheFateswornDLC’s plotdeals with the effect of the magic fromKingdoms of Amalur’sWell of Souls. At the beginning of the game, this magical device resurrects the protagonist, called the Fateless One. It’s also indirectly the source of the Fateless One’s unique ability to alter the normally ironclad destiny of other characters in the game’s world. So presumably, Telogrus’ awakening has something to do with the player’s tampering with fate. The DLC is calledFatesworn, after all.

Fateswornis the first all-newKingdoms of Amalurcontent since the original game’sTeeth of NarosDLC in 2012. The franchise effectively died with the bankruptcy of 38 Studios and Big Huge Games that same year, scrapping plans for a sequel and MMO set in the same world. New publisher THQ has yet to openly discussthe possibility of aKingdoms of Amalur 2somewhere down the road. Still, the soon-to-be-releasedFateswornDLC offers a glimmer of hope for the franchise’s future.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningis available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with theFateswornDLC releasing December 14.
