There are plenty of new clothing options available to players inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, with the wardrobe and other closet furniture items allowing players to quickly change their clothes directly out of their storage. However, there is another option that allows players to quickly change into their own preset outfits,made of clothes they’ve selected, wherever and whenever they want. This would be the rare Magic Wand item.
There are two recipes for wands: The star wand and the bamboo wand. The bamboo wand recipe can be randomly received from a message bottle found on beaches, but the star wand’s recipe must begiven by Blathers' younger sister, Celeste. Both wands function in the exact same way, but have different crafting materials.

The first step to getting a magic wand is to receive a recipe for one. While the bamboo wand recipe can only be received randomly, the star wand will automatically be the first recipe given by Celeste when she visits a player’s island. Celeste will appear on nights where a meteor shower is occurring on the island.These showers occur from 7pm to 4amon nights that Tom Nook or Isabelle state that they will occur during the morning announcements.
After receiving either recipe, the real challenge comes with finding and obtaining the materials. Both wands require star fragments, which are little bits of stars that resemble konpeito candy that wash up on beaches the day after a meteor shower. While they aren’tedible like the candy, they are essential for crafting.
To make sure these materials show up on the beach, players must tilt the right Joycon stick during a meteor shower, so they are looking up at the sky. Then, when a shooting star starts coming by, players should press A to make a wish on it. Every time a wish is made, a star fragment will wash up on the beach, so players should make as many wishes as possible to stack up on star fragments. Some players have reported seeing somethinga little more extra-terrestrial in the skyas well sometimes, so players should keep their eyes open.
Crafting a star wand inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsrequires three star fragments and one large star fragment. When wishing on a star, it is random if a normal star fragment or a large one will wash up the next day, but large star fragments are far rarer than the normal ones. Not finding one the next day will mean that players will have to wait until the next meteor shower and try again.
For crafting a bamboo wand, the circumstances for collecting materials is far more simple and consistent. While the bamboo wand requires three star fragments like the star wand, it requires six sticks of young spring bamboo instead of a large star fragment.Bamboo can be obtained from random islandsthat can be found with Nook Miles tickets. From these islands, players can obtain bamboo as materials, but also bamboo to replant on their own islands, so they may have a steady supply of the plant.
After crafting a wand, players can go to a wardrobe or other closet-like furniture item to pick out outfits to register to the wand. After registering, players can use their wand to quickly switch outfits by choosing them from a wheel, like thetool ring or reaction ring.
