Where there’s a strong competitive scene, there’s also usually plenty of opinions regarding which characters are the best and worst to play as,whichMortal Kombatfighters need nerfs, and who needs buffs.Mortal Kombat 11has seen countless opinions like this over the last few years, andMortal Kombat 1will undoubtedly see the same.

How Mortal Kombat 1’s Tier List Could Differ From Mortal Kombat 11’s

One of the biggest differences betweenMortal Kombat 11andMortal Kombat 1’s tier listswill be who’s actually included in them. Though a handful of characters will make the transition, a lot ofMortal Kombat 11’s fighters won’t, and while it’ll affect every tier, it’ll really shake up the S-tier. Currently,MK11’s S-tier is filled with characters like Cetrion, Geras, Fujin, Jade, and Joker. None of those characters are set to appear inMortal Kombat 1, with Liu Kang being the only one present so far. It does, however, seem likely that Liu Kang will retain his top-tier spot inMortal Kombat 1, since he has more long-range and close-range combos than ever before, along with new special moves that showcase his Fire God abilities.

FromMortal Kombat 11’s A-tier, a handful of fighters will carry over toMortal Kombat 1, including Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and Kung Lao. While fans have seen nothing of Shang Tsung yet, and only snippets of gameplay from Kung Lao, NetherRealm provided closer looks at Sub-Zero and Johnny Cage, both of which could shift in ranking. From what fans have seen so far,Sub-Zero’sMortal Kombat 1movesetseems very accessible, but could lack the complexity needed to pull off more powerful combos, potentially resulting in a drop to a lower tier. Johnny Cage, on the other hand, is getting a big buff, retaining his usual moveset but with increased speed, and getting a new Star Power ability that allows Cage to deliver three special moves in quick succession.

Raiden, Scorpion, and Baraka are all currently inMortal Kombat 11’s B-tier, and their fates in the upcoming entry are all a little unclear right now. Scorpion looks just as good as ever, with plenty of accessible special moves and combos that are perfect for beginners to master, but he doesn’t seem to have anything overly new to push him into the higher tiers. Raiden could end up being one ofMortal Kombat 1’s weakest fighters, with his lightning powers canonically receiving a downgrade that could coincidentally inform how he plays. Baraka looks solid though, with the only footage released so far showing him to be an absolute beast at close-range combat.

Kitana and Mileena are currently the only Kombatants ofMortal Kombat 11’s C-tier that appear inMortal Kombat 1. While fans haven’t really seen much of Mileena yet, they have had a solid look at Kitana, and for the most part, she’s looking like a strong fighter this time around. Kitana has her usual long-range projectile attacks, but her close-range capabilities seem to have received some nice additions, potentially making her a better all-round fighter.

Mortal Kombat 1is scheduled to release September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
