While the Eclipse were a major thorn in Aloy’s side in the previous game, that is not the case forHorizon Forbidden West. That said, the Eclipse do make a brief appearanceduring one of the many side quests available to players. Early on in the game, players can help a Carja soldier prove their innocence by tracking down a group of Eclipse cultists and retrieving a mask from them.

After this quest is complete, players get a follow-up side quest where Aloy must track down the rest of the Eclipse that have managed to sneak past Barren Light. Here is howHorizon Forbidden Westplayers can complete Shadow in the West.

Go to the Hideout Coordinates

The recommended level for this side quest is Level 10. When ready to proceed, set the side quest as active and follow the waypoint to reach the coordinates for the Eclipse Hideout.

Once at the coordinates, the objective will update. Before going any further, it is recommended toscan the area with the Focus. There are several cultists patrolling around that can be scanned and tagged to make it easier to sneak up and stealth kill them. The Eclipse also have several machines under their control that will also need to be killed to complete the current objective.

Talk to the Utaru Prisoner

Once all the Eclipse and machines have been dealt with, go toward the gate and look for an Utaru prisoner up on the scaffolding on the left side of the gate. It isn’t possible to climb up and talk to him, but players will see a prompt to talk to him once they are close enough to the scaffolding. The Utaru, Yef, informs Aloy of a spot where Aloy can sneak into the fortress.

Climb up the ladder that Yef unfolded and walk up the scaffolding. Follow the path and pick up an Audio Datapoint on the left of the crawlspace. Stealth kill the Eclipse cultist and continue walking along the scaffolding beyond the crawlspace.

Find Vezreh

Follow the path to reach a gap in the wall and enter the Hideout. Hide in the nearby tall grass and scan the area with the Focus to best assess how to deal with the cultists. There are a handful of environmental hazards that can be utalized in combat, but players can also rely on stealth kills if they wish. There is also one machinecontrolled by the Eclipse as well.

After clearing out the guards, head toward the door to go inside the hideout. Go toward the prison cell and free all the Utaru prisoners inside. Next, go toward the door to trigger a cutscene where Aloy confronts Vezreh.

After this, players will have to fight a machine and Vezreh. Take the machine out first and then fight Vezreh. He uses a heavy weapon, so try to hide behind cover when he attacks. Once he is defeated, a cutscene will play and the objective will update.

Search Vezreh’s Quarters

Search the area for information on if there are any other Eclipse cultists left. There are several Datapoints that can be scanned with the Focus. Next to one of the Datapoints is a vent cover that can bepulled off with the Pullcasterto find another Datapoint. Once all three of Vezreh’s Datapoints have been found and accessed, the objective will update. Return to Yef and speak to him about the results of the investigation. The quest will be completed and players will get XP and Skill Points as a reward.
