Summary
The Room of Requirement is considered one of the strongest features ofHogwarts Legacy, as one Gryffindor player decided to use its housing tools to give the room a Christmas makeover. Despite its launch at the very beginning of 2023,Hogwarts Legacystill left a strong enough impression on fans that many in its community felt it wassnubbed at The Game Awards 2023. It featured a refreshing take on the open world, never overwhelming the player with activities or overstaying its welcome. While there was plenty of content, to be sure, the reason why it worked was due to the convenience of exploration.
Players could hop onto a broom, ride a hippogriff, or simply just traverse the scenic countryside on foot, and be rewarded with hours of gathering collectibles such as wand handles, item traits, or even furniture (dubbed Conjurations). Using these Conjurations, theRoom of Requirement inHogwarts Legacyallows players to build their own base of operations, both for the purposes of alchemy, but also for tending to magical beasts rescued from poachers over the course of their adventure.
That being said, the Room of Requirement is first and foremostHogwarts Legacy’s housing system, and NAS210 used the game’s plentiful decorations to give their lavish Hogwarts home a festive mood with some Christmas trees and presents. Given that all sevenHarry Potterbooks take place over the course of a school year, the tension and mystery in the story tend to reach their peak during the holidays. This has given the earlier films their reputation as Christmas movies, andHogwarts Legacycertainly tries to follow in those footsteps in its own way, with the climactic confrontation with Ranrock taking place during winter.
Seasons change inHogwarts Legacyas players progress through the main story, and as such, Hogwarts and Hogsmeade receive Halloween and Christmas decorations, depending on the current stage of the narrative. Avalanche Software made sure that players also had access to these decorations, in case they wanted to spruce up their Room of Requirement to fit the season.
Ultimately, the commercial success ofHogwarts Legacyalmost certainly means that fans will be getting a sequel in the near future. Thoughleaks have suggestedHogwarts Legacy 2as being in development, Avalanche and Warner Bros. have remained tight-lipped about their next foray into the Wizarding World. As with any unofficial sources, it should be taken with a grain of salt, but whileHogwarts Legacylaid a nice foundation as aHarry PotterRPG, there are many obvious ways that a sequel could improve upon the formula – housing system included.
