Developers ofHogwarts Legacyhave created a magical barrier that protects cats in the game. Many modern games allow fans to pet animals, with some even having trophies for petting or interacting with them.Hogwarts Legacyis no different, as its world is filled with cats roaming around Hogwarts and the nearby locations.Petting these cats leads to a short cutscene, complete with a purring sound from the speaker on the DualSense controller for gamers playing on a PS5. Despite this neat feature, it seems like some players were mistreating the cats inHogwarts Legacy, causing the development team at Avalanche Software to create a magical barrier that protects them.RELATED:Hogwarts Legacy Player Follows Sebastian to Weird PlaceA video showing it in action was shared by Chandler Wood, Community Manager at Avalanche Software. It features themain character ofHogwarts Legacycasting a spell on a nearby cat, only for a barrier to immediately pop up to nullify the attack. The cat then appears to cast Avada Kedavra, killing the player instantly as a game over screen appears at the end of the video. Wood later confirms that this feature was only made for internal use, and it will not make it to the release version ofHogwarts Legacyin any way.
The development team just wanted to have fun with the gameplay systems ofHogwarts Legacy, with Wood calling the spell “AVADA CAT-DAVRA!!!” in a follow-up tweet. However, it looks like many fans want it to be a part ofHogwarts Legacy, with one user requesting that it should have a 0.5% chance of getting triggered. One player wants it to beDLC forHogwarts Legacy, while another user jokingly states that this is why there are no dogs in the game.
Even though someHogwarts Legacyfans may want to pet all the cats they come across, not everyone playing the game is being so kind to them. As an example, oneHogwarts Legacyplayer launched a cat across the mapusing a combination of spells, so this clip may as well be a response to similar videos being shared online.
Like the cat in the video,Hogwarts Legacyplayers can use the killing curse in their game, albeit with a long cooldown. AsHogwarts Legacydoesn’t feature a morality system, it lets users utilize whatever means necessary to take out their enemies. This means that players can cast all theUnforgivable Curses inHogwarts Legacywithout a major penalty or drawback.
Hogwarts Legacyis out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming May 5 and a Switch version dropping July 25.
