After finding great success with both theResident Evil 2and3remakes, it seems Capcom plans on producing even moreResident Evilremakes in the future. And while many fans would have guessed thatCode: Veronicawould be next up when it comes toResident Evilremakes, it’s been leaked that Capcom is working on aResident Evil 4remake instead.
TheResident Evil 4remake leakhas resulted in some very mixed reactions online. There are some fans who are excited that Capcom is remakingResident Evil 4, as it’s easily one of the most popular games in the franchise. However, there are many others who are upset that Capcom is attempting to remake what many consider to be an untouchable classic. This uproar from fans has caused “Code Veronica” to trend on Twitter, with many tweets expressing disappointment that Capcom is apparently skipping over the game.
Perhaps one of the biggest reasons why Capcom’s apparent decision to move forward with aResident Evil 4remake instead of aCode: Veronicaremakeis the fact thatRE4has been re-released on basically every gaming platform imaginable. TheResident Evil 4HD remaster is available on all modern platforms, and there’s even a mobile version of the game as well. By comparison,Code: Veronicais available on Xbox One through the Xbox 360 backward compatibility program, and the inferior PS2 version is available on PS4. Overall, it’s been re-released far less times thanRE4and is less readily available.
Even though Capcom appears to be pursuing aResident Evil 4remake next instead ofCode: Veronica, that doesn’t mean that the door is completely shut on aCode: Veronicaremake at some point. It’s clear that Capcom intends on producingmoreResident Evilremakes, and when it’s done with4, it seems likeCode: Veronicawould be the obvious next step. Then again, Capcom could make aResident Evil Zeroremake instead.
Regardless, there should be plenty ofResident Evilprojects on the horizon for survival-horror fans to look forward to, including therumoredResident Evil 8, which is said to be launching at some point in 2021.
Resident Evil - Code: Veronicais available for Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2, PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360.
