A post on Twitter rankedHelldivers 2as being better than the entirety of theHalofranchise, a bold claim for sure but one that at least 1,000 other people agreed with. However, this comparison did not sit right withHelldivers 2developer Johan Pilestedt, asking, “Why compare? Just let gamers love and enjoy both, either or neither. We need more compassion and union in the world, and less rivalry.”
The developer asks why gamers must constantly compare popular titles in the first place, stating that the world needs more compassion and unity. WhileHelldivers 2is incredibly violent and satirical, this is a message that is reflected in the game itself,requiring players to form a winning teambased on good communication skills and a general sense of friendliness. The overall aesthetics of the two games are similar, with Helldivers dropping down onto various uninhabitable planets through pods similar to the ODST pods in theHaloseries. However, the actual gameplay of each game is quite different.
We need more compassion and union in the world, and less rivalry.
