In the world ofHarry Potter, new Hogwarts students are sorted into the four Houses of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, each with their own values and characteristics. The sorting is done by Godric Gryffindor’s old hat, now known as the Sorting Hat, but sometimes certain students can be hard to place.
As Harry finds out during his sorting, the students themselves also have a say in where they are placed, which may have led to some choosing ill-suited Houses because they wanted to be with their friends or family. People, especially children, are also capable of changing over time. Due to these reasons and more, someHarry Pottercharacters are sorted into the wrong House.

7Percy Weasley Could Have Been In Slytherin
Often at Hogwarts, students are sorted into the same House as the rest of their family, and this is certainly the case with all the Weasleys. One Weasley who was perhaps sorted into the wrong House was Percy Weasley. It’s possible that he could have achieved even more in Slytherin than Gryffindor.
Percy Weasley was extremely ambitious, and was even willing to betray his own family for career gains. He also enjoyed the prestige that came with the position he was able to earn. Moreover, he displayed fewtraits of Gryffindor, although his return at the end was certainly brave.

6Albus Dumbledore Could Have Been In Slytherin
As a student, Albus Dumbledore was a wizard with great ambitions, as was revealed in the last book. He yearned for power both magical and political, and had some surprisingly dark plans for the world. Even after he had been brought down to reality by the death of his sister, Dumbledore had to restrict himself, knowing thathis lust for power was his greatest weakness.

In later life, Albus Dumbledore also used othertraits of Slytherin, although this time for good. To eventually help take down Lord Voldemort, Dumbledore used his wit and cunning, often lying or withholding vital information, even from those he cared about most.
5Romilda Vane Could Have Been In Slytherin
Romilda Vane does something pretty dark, and her motives and technique would arguably be more typical of a Slytherin than a Gryffindor. InThe Half-Blood Prince, Romilda has the ambition of becoming the girlfriend of the chosen one, Harry, solely because he was now acknowledged as the chosen one.
Shockingly after Harry shows little interest in her, she gives him some Chocolate Cauldrons spiked with a strong love potion. Had her wry plan worked, Harry could have unknowingly and unwillingly fallen in love with her.

4Charlie Weasley Could Have Been In Hufflepuff
Charlie Weasley is the Weasley that the least is known about, especially in the films where he is barely even mentioned. It is quite possible that Charlie Weasley would have also been better suited to the House of Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor, where all of his family were placed.

When Harry meets Charlie in the books, he is very laid back while simultaneously being very dedicated to his work with dragons in Romania. Charlie Weasley also seems very close to his friends, who traveled all the way to Romania to see him. Friendship is a core value for Hufflepuffs. The love and care Charlie shows to magical creatures, even those as dangerous as dragons, also makes him a great fit for Hufflepuff.
3Hermione Granger Could Have Been In Ravenclaw
It took the Sorting Hat a long time to place Hermione Granger, with both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw being equally suited for her. While Hermione is certainly brave and likes to help people, her thirst for knowledge, natural intelligence, and planning skills are arguably greater.
Surrounded by other like-minded individuals, Hermione may have been able to achieve even more in her studies and certainly would have gotten into less trouble had she been sorted into Ravenclaw.

2Regulus Black Could Have Been In Gryffindor
Regulus Arcturus Black, like his brother Sirius, could have been in Gryffindor, as he turned out to be one of the bravest characters in the entireHarry Potterseries. After falling in with the wrong people, Regulus saw the error of his ways after finding out what Voldemort had done.

He then faced death in order to try and prevent Lord Voldemort from achieving immortality and ruling forever. The fact that Regulus saved the house-elf Kreacher, and sacrificed his own life in his place, is incrediblychivalrous and very becoming of a Gryffindor. He may have turned down a dark path, but he did the right thing in the end.
1Peter Pettigrew Could Have Been In Slytherin
Out of all the sorting mistakes, the most tragic has to be Peter Pettigrew being wrongly sorted into Gryffindor. Had he not been sorted into the wrong house, he would have been unlikely to have been friends with James Potter and the others. Thus, he would never have been able to betray them causing the deaths of James and Lily.
Peter Pettigrew possesses none of the characteristics of Gryffindor House, lacking even an ounce of courage or chivalry. He instead should have been sorted into Slytherin, as even in small amounts he still had a bit of cunning and could be resourceful at times. Unlikethe best Slytherinsthough, Peter never used his traits for good, instead using them to seek safety with whoever was the strongest at the time.
