The movie is ultimately an origins story for Rocket wherein viewers get to see him as a baby as he gets experimented on.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is full of drama and tear-jerking moments but it has plenty of laughs too.

There will be spoilers in this discussion of some of the best lines.

Adam in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

8“Who Threw This Thing At Me?”

One of the first action scenes in the moviehas Adam Warlockbust through the Guardians of the Galaxy’s hideout. Every member gets a piece of him, even Kraglin who is still trying to get the hang of his psychic dart.

In peril, Kraglin summons up all of his courage and launches the dart at Adam which looks like it could deal a lethal blow. It instead bounces off of him like a tiny grain of sand. Adam’s indignant’ Who threw this thing at me” is a great line.

7“We Can Hear Everything.”

Peter is still not over Gamora in the movie. Even though he knows this Gamora isn’t the one he fell in love with, he is still desperate to rekindle some sort of connection. He gives her a big speech before they jump into the organic research facility. The music swells and it almost looks like it is working except forwhen Mantis interrupts.

She tells Peter that everyone can hear everything because he hit the wrong button. The scene continues with the group arguing over which colored button does what is like some sort of educational program for kids.

6“I’m Going To Go To Jail For Murdering This One.”

Once the team gets inside the organic research facility, they are almost caught by Master Carja. He is played by Nathan Fillion, a treasured actor by nerdy fans who love suchsci-fi shows asFirefly. Peter convinces Master Carja that they are in the bay, ready to fix a leak.

Peter also points out that Drax is not right in the head. Master Carja understands and goes off on a tangent about wanting to murder one of his own teammates which gets called back later on inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

5“Open The F-ing Door!”

Counter-Earth is one of the weirdest places that the group travels to in the movie. It is filled with anthropomorphic animals who look like they are in the 60s or 70s decade of the United States. Eventually, Peter convinces one of the gawking families to lend them his car so that he can rescue Rocket.

Nebula tries to accompany Peter but she can’t figure out how to open the door. After a brief exchange of yells, Peter swears at her before peeling off. It’s the only F-bomb in the movie and it was used appropriately.

4“I’m Not A Raccoon?”

One of Rocket’s catchphrases that he says in every movie is “I’m not a raccoon.” No one seems to know what he is even though it is obvious. For example, Rocket is referred to as a badger, squirrel, and hedgehog inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Every time he corrects someone, it’s usually in anger except for when he “dies”and sees Lyllain the afterlife. She calls him a raccoon as well and he just softly corrects her questioningly before disappearing back into the land of the living.

3“She’s a Good Dog.”

Going back to Kraglin, he is so frustrated that he can’t get his dart to work right that he calls Cosmo a bad drug after she shows off her psychic abilities. She keeps begging him to take it back throughout the movie but he refuses.

Eventually, the hideout is attacked again at the end of the movie and this time it is by robotic animals straight out oftheBiomutantgame. When Kraglin is about to die, Cosmo steps in to save him. That’s when he yields and calls Cosmo a good dog again. Cosmo is beyond happy at this compliment and the scene is rather sweet.

2“There Is No God, That’s Why I Stepped In.”

The High Evolutionary is one of thebest MCU villainsin quite some time. He doesn’t want to destroy the galaxy. He merely wants to reshape it in his image and give perfection to the universe. That’s why he keeps experimenting on animals and humans. He yells this line at one of his own researchers, assuring them that there is no God and that he is the next best thing.

He’s a cruel villain with no room for sympathy. Sometimes characters have no moral gray areas, unlike Adam Warlock who is just following orders. The High Evolutionary is just plain evil.

1“Word.”

One of the final scenes ofGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3shows Rocket leading the new team into battle. They await his signal, he says “Word” and they all leap into action. It’s a great way to put a bookend in this MCU trilogy, especially with the accompaniment of “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone which is the first song heard in the first movie way back in 2014.

Will Rocket be the new protagonist who will lead the Guardians of the Galaxy into further MCU adventures or is this it for him? It’s hard to say especiallywithout James Gunnrunning the ship anymore but there is always the possibility.
