GreedFall 2: The Dying Worldis the upcoming sequel to the 2019 cult hitGreedFallby French video game developer Spiders, currently slated to hit early access this summer.Set three years before the events ofGreedFall,GreedFall 2will put players into the shoes of a Teer Fradee native who has been forced away from their home and taken to the Old Continent. It is likely the Malichor plague that drove the first game’s narrative will play a central role inGreedFall 2, as Spiders has confirmed the disease is just beginning to spread, which presumably means this story will see the beginning of the move to colonize Teer Fradee.
While players will be in control of a brand-new character never before seen or spoken of inGreedFall 2, there will also be some familiar faces joining the story — one such face is Mev. Mev plays a rather significant role inGreedFall, and it seems she may be returning inGreedFall 2for an even more prominent place in the narrative. Her place inGreedFall 2’s story has not only been verified by Spiders, but her appearance in the announcement trailer for the game also implies she will play a far bigger role than she did before.
GreedFall 2 Will Likely See Mev Playing a Much More Prominent Role Than Before
Mev Is the Highest Spiritual Authority of Teer Fradee
While she arguably didn’t get as much screen time as she should have inGreedFall, Mev is undoubtedly one of the franchise’s most important characters. As the highest spiritual authority of Teer Fradee and the head of the “shadow spirits” of the village of Vigshadhir, Mev is a valued representative of Teer Fradee and a spokesperson of sorts for the island’s natives. Players first encounter Mev inGreedFallduring the “In Pursuit of the Tierna Harh Cadachtas” quest after De Sardet learns of one who can procure a miraculous remedy for theMalichor.
Shortly after finding Mev and being dismissed by her, players witness her getting shot and then take her back to her village to recover. Eventually,De Sardetlearns from Mev that the remedy she has created is not for Malichor, but “to heal those who escaped the claws of the Alliance” and she dismisses De Sardet. De Sardet later returns to Mev seeking help finding her cousin — a request Mev agrees to fulfill upon learning of the death of Catasach. Mev then performs a ritual on Catasach’s body, only to discover that Vinbarr, the high-king, is still alive. De Sardet then sets out in pursuit of Vinbarr, as they believe the high-king can lead them to Constantin, thus affirming Mev’s value to the story.
Mev’s Appearance in GreedFall 2’s Trailer Suggests a Bigger Role
Despite Mev playing such an important role inGreedFall, players still didn’t get as much time with her as they should have. Fortunately, according toGreedFall 2’s announcementtrailer, she may be playing an even bigger role in the next game. In the trailer, Mev performs a ritual with two of her companions, while Nadaig Frasamen approaches slowly from behind her. It’s unclear what the trio may be doing in the trailer, but the fact that Mev is one of the first sights suggests her prominence in the sequel.
The exact role Mev will play inGreedFall 2remains to be seen, but a bit of dialogue fromGreedFallmight hint at what could happen in the prequel. Upon players meeting Mev for the first time, she distrusts them almost immediately, suggesting that they have only “come here to rape our lands…as did those who came before them long ago.” It’s possible players could witness Mev attempting to repel the first invaders ofTeer Fradeewho sought to take advantage of its resources and the rumored Malichor cure. After all, this would make sense, considering what is shown in the trailer, but only time will tell.
