Spiders’GreedFallis a beautiful, classic action RPG. It feels reminiscent ofolder BioWare titles, while carving out its own identity in a beautifully fleshed out and colonial world. De Sardet, the main character of GreedFall, sets out for Teer Fradee on a diplomatic and medicinal mission, with the latter being curing the Malichor Plague.

WARNING: Minor Spoilers AHEADWhat players find underscores its colonial themes well and leads toGreedFall’s epic ending, one way or another. Now, because of the success of this title,Spiders and Nacon have announcedGreedFall 2: The Dying World. It’s set to release in 2024, so not much was shown beyond a brief teaser trailer and simple plot synopsis, but what is known creates a perfect symmetry with the first game. And if the beginnings are so similar, it could be that the endings are as well.

GreedFall 1 and GreedFall 2: The Dying World Have Similar Beginnings

In the firstGreedFall, it’s worth noting how the prologue begins in one part of the world, while the majority of the game takes place in another. As De Sardet, players begin in the Old Continent of Gacane. Players see enough to understand the general vibe and state of the world, before they set off for Teer Fradee to begin their mission. In the simplest terms, it is a character from a dominant colonial culture traveling to the culturally subjugated’s homeland.

GreedFall 2flips this on its head. It’s not immediately clear if players will get to check out Teer Fradee (since they’ve already seen it), but players will be anative of Teer Fradee—the culturally subjugated—being forced to travel to the Old Continent of Gacane—home of the colonially dominant. This event is not uncommon during colonial time periods, but it also highlights the stark danger the new PC will be in.

As Nacon describes the game on its website, players will explore an “old world ravaged by war and scarred by theMalichor plagueand the political scheming of the different factions, you must regain your freedom and control of your own destiny. Using diplomacy, cunning or combat, as well as help from allies you make, it’s up to you to end one man’s ambitions of conquest, which could spell the end for the continent and your island.”

GreedFall 1 and GreedFall 2: The Dying World May Have Similar Endings

This potentially hints at both games having similar endings too, if for no other reason than to bring this beautiful symmetry full circle. WhileGreedFall’s endingsare important, they will be discussed here as vaguely as possible, but thebiggest spoilers are contained here.

In short,GreedFallhas two endings: a good one and a bad one. The bad one sees De Sardet torture and destroy the island, while the former sees them save it by sacrificing something personal to them. Doing this ending, depending on otherchoices made inGreedFall, will see companions have good epilogues, Malichor on the Old Continent retreating, and the island itself becoming free of corruption’s influence. In short, while De Sardet’s actions help the Old Continent, they mainly save the island itself. The colonizer doing the right thing, especially as players learn more about themselves, the corruption, and so on, is a potent ending.

Obviously, there is a sense of nobility and correcting wrongs that wouldn’t really apply inGreedFall 2: The Dying World, but that symmetry is still possible. This is all obviously speculation, as further story details aboutGreedFall 2: The Dying Worldare unclear, but the above synopsis could spell out its end. Players are looking to end one man’s conquest, “which could spell the end for the continent” and the island. So, whatever the protagonist is dragged into, it contains the fate of the Old Continent—the Dying World—in their hands.

In the grand scheme of things, it seems likely thatGreedFall 2’s good ending would result In the player, from Teer Fradee, saving a world that is not their home (and slightly helping out their home in the process). Even though the Malichor is said to retreat inGreedFall 1’s ending, it does take time and there are more dangerous things than even in the Old Continent.

Interestingly enough, Nacon also specifies thatGreedFall 2“starts three years” before the events of the first game. This would likely suggest that there is a decent time skip in this game, as it’s impossible that the Old Continent is “saved” prior to De Sardet’s departure. No matter what though, the relationship between the first and second game appears to be tightly knit, meaning fans should be sure to play throughGreedFalland its DLC, the De Vespe Conspiracy, ahead of the sequel’s launch.

GreedFall 2: The Dying Worldis scheduled to release for PC and consoles in 2024.
