Summary
THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have shared another glimpse at the Old Camp from theGothicremake. The teaser surfaced online mere days after THQ announced an unexpectedNintendo Switch port of the original cult classic RPG from 2001.
A reimagined version of Piranha Bytes' seminal game has been in active development for years now, withTHQ greenlighting theGothicremake in 2020 due to a successful playable teaserwhich turned a lot of heads among the RPG fandom. And while many fans praised that vertical slice of the game for its intoxicating atmosphere worthy of theGothicname, the playable teaser also received widespread criticism for scraping the unique combat system of the original game in favor of generic soulslike mechanics. As a direct result of that feedback, Spanish studio Alkimia Interactive went back to the drawing board, vowing to bring the game in line with the fans' expectations.

Three and a half years later, the project is still without a release date, but its social media channels are now finally showing some signs of life, as underlined by a new screenshot from theGothicremake that just surfaced on Twitter. The image offers another glimpse at the Old Camp, specifically the outer southern side of its inner walls which separate Gomez’s inner guard circle from the diggers. Four members of the latter group are central to the screenshot, which depicts them roasting a Scavenger, the very first enemy that most players encounter in the original game and one that was also prominently featured throughout the remake’s playable teaser.
The image is only the second-ever look at the Old Camp from the upcoming game, with the original one dating back to late 2022, when Alkimia and THQ shared a couple of wide-lens shots of this memorable location as part of a holiday greeting message for the fans. TheGothicremake was also treated to several other promo screenshotsover the years, but those were all geared toward showcasing the RPG’s wilderness.
While the social media reactions to the new teaser indicate that the level of excitement for theGothicremake remains fairly high, the fandom continues to wait for THQ or Alkimia to share some concrete availability information about the game. The first and only time that theGothicremake developers talked about the game’s potential release datewas in August 2022, when they merely said that the project still isn’t far enough along for them to target a specific launch window.
TheGothicremake is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
