The upcoming indie game is a sidescrolling platformer, but rather than traversing the normal path of stressful combat and difficult maneuvering,Planet of Lanaturns down the heat and follows the footsteps of games likeSpiritfarerinstead. Players will presumably assume the role of Lana, and though the world around her may look stunning and feel quaint, there’s something more sinister coming. The trailer shows what appears to be rockets falling from the sky, and Lana is greeted by spider-like robots after encountering her tiny companion that joins her for the events of the game.
Planet of Lanais a dangerous, adventure platformer the relies on solving puzzles to progress and explore this “off-earth” world. Not unlike the upcoming platformerMinute of Islands, instead of utilizing quick jumps and difficult combat, Wishfully says that “everything isn’t a fight” inPlanet of Lana.So perhaps this will be a less traditional story of destroying foreign monsters and instead something more wholesome, like making peace with the new life or reprogramming them,Horizon: Zero Dawnstyle.
This relaxing platformer is set to be anXbox exclusive, but players can also pick it up on PC sometime next year. The trailer forPlanet of Lanais short but shows off the gorgeous hand-painted backdrop of the game’s setting. Players can expect an array of scenery such as waterscapes underneath a blue sky, sunsets, foggy nights, and eerie forests. EvenPlanet of Lana’s sound design is already impressive, so the only question now is how her story will unfold come 2022.
While the monsters and their quest might look something akin to theReapers from theMass Effecttrilogy, this story is more about the journey to keep Lana’s world beautiful and quiet in a non-violent way. Wishfully says that Lana’s planet used to be undisturbed, with humans and animals equally sharing nature in a symbiotic relationship, but the new creatures threaten that peace.
Planet in Lanais set to release in 2022 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
