A prominent garment fromGod of War Ragnarok’spromotional material, Kratos loses his bearskin cape in the opening cinematic, never to be worn in-game. That is, until now.

God of War Ragnaroklaunched on November 9 to the overwhelming adulation of fans and critics. Nominated for game of the year at the 2022 Game Awards, the sequel to 2018’sGod of Wariterates in a number of meaningful ways from its predecessor, creating an awe-inspiring journey through the nine realms of Norse mythology. Surviving Fimbulwinter and bestingOdin’s cunning schemes inGod of War Ragnarokrepresented a high point in 2022 for many gamers.

Finding fault in such a universally acclaimed game is no small task, though for many fans, one omission from the game has been a pressure pointsinceGod of War Ragnarok’srelease. In the game’s opening cinematic, when he is pursued by a foe, Kratos' bearskin cape is ripped away, never to be seen again. In the months leading up to the game’s release, promotional images and trailers forGod of War Ragnarokshowcased the fur cape on Kratos a number of times, and fans grew attached. With a wide variety of armors throughout the game, and well-received customization options including a transmogrification system, it came as a surprise to many fans that the iconic fur cape was notably absent. Thankfully, Reddit user Speclizer_ has shown off their new mod for the game, which re-adds the fur cape and makes it fully wearable.

Speclizer created themod forGod of War Ragnarokby utilizing a jailbroken PS4, which is currently the only accessible way to modify games for the console. According to them, the cape functions fairly well through cutscenes and combat, with the sole exception being clipping issues with the Blades of Chaos. This leads to some users speculating that Sony Santa Monica has plans to add the fur cape into the game at some point in the future, possibly for a new game plus mode, which came as an update for 2018’sGod of Warsome months after its release. If the previous entry is any indicator,God of War Ragnarokshould receive a healthy amount of post-launch support and content.
