The cast ofGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mysterymanaged to think up a very on-brand method of passing time off-set during the upcoming sequel’s production. Even director Rian Johnson took part, turning the Covid-suppressing lockdown into a much more pleasant experience if a bit morbid.

According to several members ofKnives Out 2’s star-studded cast, they all came together for regularmurder mystery game nightsduring their downtime at their shared hotel. Everyone was reportedly all-in for the fun, resulting in plenty of excitement during what could have otherwise been a rather dull period. Johnson himself kicked them off, fully immersing everybody in the fun right from the get-go.

Speaking withDeadline,Glass Onionstar Janelle Monáe explained how enthusiastic they got, saying, “[Rian Johnson] would leave handwritten, medieval-style notes under our hotel room door saying, ‘You’re invited…'” It certainly seems in character for Johnson to put so much energy into authenticity like this. Given his attention to detail in films likeKnives OutandThe Last Jedi, it’s clear he’s got an enthusiasm for what he does. But he isn’t the only one.

Daniel Craig, who plays detectiveBenoit Blanc in bothKnives OutandGlass Onion, expressed his enjoyment as well, even going so far as to detail his strategy. “I’m a very good actor,” he said, correctly. “I was just there for the fun of the game. My game plan was basically just to look like the bad guy all of the time.” Meanwhile, fellow star Edward Norton pointed out the real ones to look out for. “Kate [Hudson] and her husband would accuse each other and it was likeWho’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” he said. “I was like, ‘Maybe we shouldn’t have spouses in this game…'”

Glass Onionis the long-awaited sequel to Johnson’s2019 hit murder mysteryKnives Out, which seemingly introduced the classic genre to a whole new audience with its cast of big names and genuinely surprising twists. The follow-up will feature Craig’s charismatic detective Benoit Blanc once again attempting to solve the central mystery, though the rest of the cast is entirely new with no other returning actors, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t just as engaging and enjoyable as the previous batch.

According to newly releasedcharacter details forGlass Onion, the story will feature the main cast as a group of old acquaintances coming together to play what they think is a harmless murder mystery game. Suddenly, Johnson and the cast’s choice of pastimes sounds even more appropriate. Fans will soon get to see how well that chemistry of theirs works together.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mysterywill play in theaters starting in November, before landing on Netflix on August 07, 2025.
