Part of the appeal for the popular action-RPG is collecting recognizable characters. The video opens on a grim outlook for ancientLiyue, a land with a unique pronunciation. Full of slain gods and infernal demons, the nation was in a state of ruin. To mend the ongoing crisis, the Geo Archon Rex Lapis, also known as Morax, brought forth the Guardian Yakshas. The sole purpose of these creatures was to endlessly fight, ridding the world of demons. However, all the bloodshed would take a toll on the Yakshas in the end.
Their mental states broken, the Guardians ended up fighting each other or falling prey to darkness. Due to this, most of the Yakshas were led to an untimely demise, with only two surviving. Of those remaining, there is only one who roams the mortal realm. According to the story trailer, his memory is preserved from the glow of Guyun and the sound of a Dihua flute. Upon this note, the video flashes a shot of Xiao, implying his role as the hidden Yaksha.
In an action-RPG likeGenshin Impact, world lore is important for developing an immersive experience. As the game continues to update and grow, miHoYo can expand on thetiers of playable characters. Rather than just dropping a new character, there is a story trailer to strengthen the release. It is great that Xiao is getting his own background even for players who have no interest in changing up their party. The fantastic artwork shown throughout the video is a nice touch as well.
Though, no matter of story and history will change the core nature of the game. Since it relies ongacha-style monetization, many fans may not even be able to access Xiao. The rates will no doubt be strict, causing plenty of players heartache as they try to pull the mysterious Yaksha Guardian. Plus, some may see the vague mentions of the other Yakshas to be a cop-out, with miHoYo waiting until a later date to bring them in as big reveals.
Genshin Impactis available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, with PS5 and Switch versions in development.
