First released in 2014,Five Nights at Freddy’sbecame an instant hit among horror game enthusiasts as they took on the role of a security guard trying to survive five nights at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. If they failed to close a door in time, or ran out of electricity, they would be jumpscared by one of the animatronics.Five Nights at Freddy’sgrew even more when popular YouTubers like Markiplier and PewDiePie posted Let’s Play videos, where they showed their hilarious reactions to the jumpscares. The franchise has since grown to 13 games, including spinoffs, a series of books, and a live-action movie starring Josh Hutcherson andMatthew Lillard.

Ever since the first teaser of theFive Nights at Freddy’sfilm came out, many fans pointed out that Bonnie was blue, and not their usual purple shade in the games. In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, as shared by Twitter user entom_dp, lead designer Robert Bennett admitted that he originally made Bonnie purple for the movie because he based it on the character’s merch. However, Cawthon corrected him and said that Bonnie was actually blue, and only appeared purple because of the first game’s lighting.

This revelation seemed to surprise many longtimeFive Nights at Freddy’sfans, with one saying that Bonnie was “still purple in my heart.” Meanwhile, other fans seemed relieved that Cawthon finally cleared the air to stop the debates around the character. Reddit user CrownedVanguard further emphasized that Bonnie was always blue by posting different iterations of the character from variousFive Nightsgames.

As mentioned by Bennett, the confusion with Bonnie’s color might have stemmed from the many merchandise pieces that made them purple. With the first game almost a decade old and theFive Nights at Freddy’sfranchise already having a deep loreattached to it, it can be shocking to know that Bonnie’s alleged purple shade was wrong all along.

On the other hand though, Bonnie and other bunny animatronics inspired by them did have a more blueish color compared to their very first design — even the mysterious Glamrock Bonnie fromFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breachhad light blue skin.

Five Nights at Freddy’spremieres in theaters and on Peacock on October 27.
