Final Fantasy 16has a darker tone than most games in the franchise but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be depressing. There are some sad moments where characters die but there are also some funny moments. The game knows when to inject some light into the campaign when things start to creep too deep into the black holes of despair.

It would be easy to write a list of Clive’s best lines inFinal Fantasy 16alone. He’s a great protagonist to lead a main entry in the series, but he’s not the only one with a silver tongue in the game. For variety’s sake, only one line per character is mentioned below except for one person.

There are spoilers, of course, for those curious.

8“It Wasn’t A Good Death We Should Be Fighting For, But A Better Life.”

Cid is one of the first major deaths in the game. He says these words in his dying breath to Clive and Jill. He at least went out with a bang in his fight against the rivaling kingdoms and Typhoon.

Because of his switch toRamuh inFinal Fantasy 16, Cid was able to weaken Typhoon enough for Clive to get the upper hand in battle. It’s a shame Cid was lost relatively so early in the game, but he lived on as a beacon of hope at least.

7“If You Want Him, You’ll Have To Go Through Me.”

Cid is not the only character who helped Clive out in this battle. After the fight with Typhoon, Clive passes out. Typhoon then reveals itself to be an entity known as Ultima. Ultima wants to claim Clive’s body as his own but Joshua steps out of the darkness and prevents this from happening.

He says this line before assaulting Ultima with a barrage of fire. The battle ends with Joshua imprisoning Ultima inside his body within a fiery cage next to his heart. It’s a move nice straightout ofKingdom Hearts.

6“They Call Me Nektar The Bold, Not Nektar The Stupid, Kupo.”

Nektar is theone and only MoogleofFinal Fantasy 16.Moogles have been a staple in the series for almost as long as it has been around. It’s great that Nektar is so sassy for a Moogle too.

He is in charge of the Monster Hunt bulletin board and every once in a while he will regal Clive with a story. This line is after Nektar lies about traveling across the ocean. His wings, Nektar explains, are too tiny for that to happen.

5“I Bowed To You Once, Now It Is You Who Shall Bow To Me!”

Jill has some impressive moments in the game even though she gets set to the back burner often. She says this line to High Priest Imreann when she revisits her captive’s homeland to destroy their Mother Crystal. She is tired of being bullied around and forced to do the orders of others.

It’s a great coming-out scene for her, showcasing thepower of both Shivaand Jill. She has done more poignant lines in the game, like reassuring Clive is doing a good job in Cid’s absence, but this feels like her best moment overall.

4“Care To Explain What The F**k Your Dog Just Did?”

Gav is one of the funnier characters in the game who will say whatever he feels like. There is no censor button on this spy, yielding to some great lines. Gav will say this particular line in the middle of the encounter right outside Clive’s former castle which Kupka has taken over.

Before this fight broke out inFinal Fantasy 16, Torgalturned into a shimmering beast to free Jill from her shackles. It came out of nowhere, surprising all, especially Gav based on the shock of his voice.

3“Come To Me, Ifrit!”

This is one of the best lines in several of the trailers leading up toFinal Fantasy 16’slaunch. It is a powerful moment wherein Clive finally gets control of Ifrit right before the Eikon battle with Kupka and Titan.Ifrit’s willingness to listento Clive could not have come at a sooner moment.

Clive has a bunch of quick one-liners or shorter sentences worth remembering in the game besides this one. His insistence on screaming “Joshua” regularly is another fine example.

2“You Betrayed Your Own Blood And Surrendered Your Son To His Fate!”

Along with his shorter quips, Clive has a ton of longer and more powerful speeches that are worth highlighting too. Of the many inFinal Fantasy 16, this one sticks out between Clive and his mother. It’s right when Phoenix andBahamut are fightingin the sky.

Anabella is putting the blame for all the bad stuff that happened to them on Clive, but he is quick to counter her hypocrisy. In the end, it’s not known exactly how Anabella feels. Did she really not care about any of her husbands or Clive? What about Joshua?

1“For Your Trouble.”

One of the best things about Clive is that he has a big family. This is significant for the series because most main characters will not have a huge established lineage. Besides his parents and Joshua, Clive also has his uncle Byron who is another funny character like Gav.

Byron says this line to the waitress of a local tavern as he hands her a giant purse full of Gil like it was nothing. This was right after Clive trashed the place in a classic RPG bar brawl.
