Many anime series follow the trope of having a male protagonist be the strongest in existence, with countless women swooning over them. However, some anime series break this stereotype, as they should, by having more powerful female characters who either help the main characters reach their full potential and goals or stand against them in stark opposition.

Whatever the reason, fans like to see badass female characters who would beat the main character if they got into a fight. From emotional stability to extensive combat abilities, many female characters are more than capable of standing their ground even when faced with a male protagonist.
7Mereoleona - Black Clover
TheBlack Cloveranime series portrays the friendly rivalry between the protagonists Asta and Yuno as they strive to become the Wizard King, an existence second only to the King of Clover Kingdom. However, as Asta has no magical talent whereas Yuno is incredibly gifted, his chances of winning seem slim. Born without magical powers, Asta focuses on building up his physical strength. He also eventually gets a mysterious five-leaf grimoire and the extremely rare power of anti-magic.

Despite his powerful devil anti-magic powers, Asta stands no chance against Mereoleona Vermillion. As a noble person from the house of Vermillion,Mereoleona has an incredible amount of mana. Coupled with her innate battle talent, few can stop the uncrowned lioness.
6Fitoria - Rising Of The Shield Hero
As one of the four cardinal heroes, Naofumi Iwatani is called to a fantastical realm. The heroes, each hailing from their own alternate Japan, have been called upon to save Raphtalia’s planet from the onslaught of monsters. Despite his early resentment of being the Shield Hero, Naifumi learns to controlhis abilities and use them in offensive waysthat few would have predicted.
Naofumi would have a hard time defending himself against Fitoria, Queen of the Filolials, despite his proficiency with Shield Hero abilities. Although Fitoria has been around for centuries before Naofumi’s summoning, she has gathered an enormous amount of combat expertise. She also possesses a deep well of magic and has collaborated with a former Shield Hero.
5Shiro - Deadman Wonderland
Ganta Igarashi, a survivor of the great earthquake that sank three-quarters of Japan’s mainland, finds himself in a major plot twist when his entire class is murdered. Ganta can do nothing except watch as his entire class is massacred right in front of him. On top of that, Ganta’s classmate killer, the Red Man, implants a red crystal in his body.
Due to the red crystal embedded in him, Ganta develops the ability to manipulate his blood as he serves a death sentence in the Deadman Wonderland prison for suspicion of killing his classmates. In the prison, Ganta meetsShiro, a childhood friendand the first person able to manipulate blood. However, Shiro is not all she seems, as she has an alter ego called the Wretched Egg, which is responsible for killing Ganta’s classmates.
4Hinata Tachibana - Tokyo Revengers
TheTokyo Revengersanime series portrays the life of Hanagaki Takemichi, a young man who travels back in time to save his girlfriend from her future death due to the skirmishes of the Tokyo Manji gang. To do so, Takemichi decides to join the upper echelon of the Tokyo Manji gang in the past, befriending its members and participating in various gang wars.
One would expect a man who joins a deadly gang to save his girlfriend to have traits of determination, level-headedness, and courage. Although sometimes possessing the aforementioned traits, Takemichi is nothing short of a crybaby. His mental state is vastly inferior to that of his girlfriend,Tachibana Hinata, as he often relies on her for emotional support on his tear-filled days.
3Akame - Akame Ga Kill!
The assassination group Night Raid is the focus oftheAkame ga Kill!anime series, famous for the brutality with which its protagonists are dispatched. They join together to overthrow the uncaring, corrupt empire. After a few occurrences, the protagonist of the series, Tatsumi, joins Night Raid and gains an Imperial Arm (legendary weapons crafted with rare materials) to face off against the Empire’s lackeys.
Like Tatsumi,Akame, the swordswoman of Night Raid, also has an Imperial Arm, but in the form of a sword. Her sword, Murasame, is coated with a deadly poison that has no antidote. Furthermore, Akame underwent grueling training to hone her impeccable assassination skills.
2Mikasa Ackerman - Attack On Titan
TheAttack on Titananime series has sent up waves of emotions in the anime community as it draws to a close. Portraying epic tales of Eldians, Marleyans, titans, humans, and the epic war between them all, few anime series can measure up to it.

Although the protagonist of the series,Eren Yeager, instills fear, dread, or complex emotionsin characters that hear his name, his combat abilities are no match for those of Mikasa Ackerman, his childhood friend. This speaks volumes of Mikasa’s combat abilities, as Eren possesses the abilities of various titans and almost wiped out the whole world. Although Eren would put up a fight, in terms of pure skill and dexterity, he would quickly find himself at Mikasa’s behest.
1Saber - Fate Stay Night
TheFateanime series is well known for its depiction of epic battles and immensely strong characters. In theFate Stay Nightseries, the Holy Grail War takes place with the winner of the battle royale being granted any wish of their desire. In each Holy Grail War, there are two classes of participants known as Servants and Masters. The Masters summon legendary heroes to be their servants and contend against the servants of the other Masters.
InFate Stay Night, Shirou Emiya, a teenage mage, partakes in the war with his legendary servant Artoria Pendragon (Saber) at his side. As a legendary knight, Saber is fierce and mighty with a sword. In terms of combat abilities, few legendary heroes (servants) can match her, much less human mages like Shirou.
