Amid the excitement forFable 4, the trailer seemed to be getting thousands of dislikes on YouTube. As noted by The Gamer, it’s one of the most disliked videos from the Xbox Games Showcase. At the time of writing, theFabletrailer uploaded on Xbox’s YouTube channel has over 20,000 likes and over 12,000 dislikes. While the YouTube comments seemed excited and optimistic aboutFable 4, one of the possible reasons for the dislikes could be the heroine’s appearance. It seemed like some gamers don’t think the protagonist in the trailer looked conventionally attractive. One commenter said that they’re hoping thatFable 4would have character customization because they were not “staring at that all day.” Others also echoed the call for character creation as a backhanded comment directed at the heroine’s looks.
The negative reactions toFable 4’s swordswoman could be chalked off as misogyny at play. It’s clear that some fans were probably expecting either a male character or a more feminine-looking character, and were upset with they saw in the trailer. It’s similar to whenHorizonfans were up in arms aboutAloy’s new appearance, with some even saying that she needed to wear makeupto look more appealing for them.
There could be other reasons for theFable 4dislikes. It could be because the fans weren’t impressed with the gameplay they saw in the trailer. It’s also possible that they weren’t confident about the quality as they hadbig expectations forFable 4. Despite these, there were still more fans who seemed eager to play the game once it comes out, either next year or in 2025.
