AnElden Ringvideo captures a unique approach to one of the RPG’s early boss fights, offering a surprising tip to counter most of Godrick the Grafted’s attacks. As fans of FromSoftware’s games well know, boss fights can be extremely challenging.Elden Ringis no different, often requiring players to repeat boss fights over and over until they’re not only familiar with the mechanics but also lucky. Sometimes, however, there’s a trick to a boss fight that can make it significantly easier.

SinceElden Ringis a non-linear open-world game, there isn’t an official first boss. But if players do stick to the critical path, Godrick will be the boss of the first ofElden Ring’s massive Legacy Dungeons. Exploring Stormveil Castle is a story in itself, introducingElden Ringplayers to many key ideas and game mechanics that will be useful later in the game. Godrick is a great example of this, with his sweeping, slow attacks and surprising transformations.

ManyElden Ringplayers may not have realized that Godrick also encourages players to try things they may otherwise have thought were too dangerous for a boss fight. In a video shared on Reddit,Elden Ringplayer Marca-Texto showed that almostall of Godrick’s attackscan be avoided with a simple trick – jumping. The video shows most of Godrick’s attack animations being avoided with a simple jump.

MostElden Ringplayers will be using other strategies tosurvive and defeat Godrick. They’ll attack at range with magic, they’ll dodge in and out of range depending on the attack, or they’ll avoid attacks with dodge rolls that offer windows of invincibility. Using jumps in a boss fight would typically be very dangerous, but it appears to work great for Godrick.

Elden Ringplayers will know that there’s more to the video than just jumping, of course. to use jumping effectively, the player has to know the timings of Godrick’s attacks in detail. Godrick’s attacks are often delayed, tricking players to dodge too early only to take damage after. Effectively jumping over any attack requiresElden Ringplayers to know exactly when the attack animation triggers its damage.

Still, for players that want every advantage they can get when taking on theElden Ring’s most dangerous foes, this is one to remember. Maybe instead of rolling away from Godrick’s next attack, it’s worth jumping over it instead. It may take just as long to practice as dodging away, though.

Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
