WithMortal Kombat 11slowly but surely wrapping up its last pieces of downloadable content, many are already wondering whether a potentialInjusticesequel is on the cards. The DC-based fighting franchise has quickly become one of the most revered in the entire genre, withInjustice 2reigning as one of the best fighting titles available on current-gen consoles.A sequel was even potentially teased inMortal Kombat 11’sJoker DLC, with many assuming one of the character’s lines of dialogue hinted at a potential third entry in the series.

Ed Boon, the creator behindInjustice, clearly sees more potential in the superhero fighting game than merely a third game, however. Taking to Twitter, Boon was very vocal about how greatInjusticewould work as a movie, creating a long and interesting discussion with his followers regarding how the franchisecould transfer to the big screen.

The exchange began after Boon shared a story with his followers regarding the divisive release ofBatman V Superman. The game director recalls a time when he met the film’s director, Zach Snyder, with Boon claiming that he was incredibly kind to the team behindInjusticeand even “let [them] visit the set in Chicago when they were filming the ‘death of the Waynes’ scene.” Boon goes on to admit that he’d love to watchthe rumored Snyder Cut ofJustice League, joining the movement of fans intrigued to see what the director originally intended for the critically panned superhero blockbuster.

The game director then claims that he’d also like to see another movie, stating “…at the same time I think INJUSTICE would make for a great feature film.” He goes on to post “#InjusticeMovie,” with thousands of fans liking both posts, clearly excited at the prospect of seeing theInjusticestoryline on the big screen. For those who have never playedInjustice, its storyline follows a timeline in which Superman kills The Joker and turns evil following the Clown Prince of Crime’s murder of Lois Lane. Through two games andnumerous comics, its often been referred to as one of the more interesting takes on DC lore in recent years, spawning a passionate fanbase in its wake.

As time goes on, it seems more and more likely that a game likeInjusticecould see a blockbuster adaptation, especially as theMortal Kombatseries is returning to the big screen next year. Alongside that, theSonic the Hedgehogmovie has just made a significant amount at the box office, whileDetective Pikachualso struck big when it dropped last year. Clearly video game movies are a strong recipe for box office success, so Boon’s wish could be more plausible than some might think.
