Destiny 2’s all-new Exotic pulse rifle is the cause of the game’s ongoing error bonanza, according to Bungie itself. Players that have been enjoying the game’s latest seasonal release, Season of the Seraph, may have found themselves facing a whole array of strange, nondescript error codes that could prevent them from easily and quickly logging into the game, and it seems that their sudden appearance isn’t random at all.
For the most part,Destiny 2’s Season of the Seraph has been well-received by the community, and the new Revision Zero Exotic pulse rifle is one of the main reasons why this is the case. Namely, the weapon is rewarded after a long and fairly engaging mission that takes players high above Earth’s atmosphere, but that’s not the only feature of the weapon that’s going to make it memorable, it would seem.

According to Dylan Gafner, theDestinyCommunity Manager, Revision Zero seems to be a spiritual successor toDestiny 2’s infamously broken Telesto. Gafner has gone on record detailing the nature of the recent surge of error codes, explaining that a bug in the weapon’s code is causing some serious problems with the game’s API. These problems have led to full server crashes in some instances, booting hundreds of players to the login screen all at once. Faced with such a substantial issue, Bungie had to make some hard calls, and decided to temporarily disable the API, which helped with the severity of the errors as well as making it impossible to use any third-party inventory management solutions, such as theDestiny Inventory Managerapp.
Sincegrinding for Revision Zero inDestiny 2is a major draw for Season of Seraph, Bungie had to prioritize the problem and deploy a quick triage while a proper solution is being prepared. The answer as to how a single weapon - Exotic or not - could be the cause of all these problems likely lies in its complexity. Namely, Revision Zero is the game’s single most customizable Exotic, featuring several different Catalyst options and even a series of cosmetic upgrades to unlock.
It’s curious that manyDestiny 2players love the Revision Zero missionmore than the season’s new Dungeon. As neat as Spire of the Watcher Dungeon may be, the new Seraph Shield offers some of the best-looking skyboxes the game has ever had, as well as taking players on a mad dash through one of Clovis Bray’s Golden Age space stations.
One of the issues with this exciting new Exotic, aside from its game-breaking complexity, is the way it’s been introduced. Specifically,Destiny 2’s Revision Zero heavily promotes FOMO, which has historically been a huge problem for the live-service title. It remains to be seen how Bungie might handle this problem once the Lightfall expansion comes out, but not everyone is thrilled with all the time gating that’s now present in the quest.
