Destiny 2players are calling for changes to a popular Year 1 Exotic weapon due to major changes introduced with the Lightfall expansion. Lightfall’s recent launch caused players to reexamine several Exotics from the first few years ofDestiny 2and discuss whether Bungie should revise the weapons in future updates.

Destiny 2’sLightfall expansion introduced the Strand element, which may be wielded in new subclasses and weapons. Development of the new Strand element prompted Bungie to adjust existing Light subclasses, consolidate difficulty options for high-level activities, and apply balance adjustments to several Exotics and Legendary weapons. However, a certain Exotic weapon fromDestiny 2Year 1is missing crucial adjustments that would bring it up to par with new and existing weapons.

Reddit user u/Corrupt96 and fellowDestiny 2players are requesting changes to theHard Light Exotic auto rifle, which was once popular during Year 1. Players in the community believe Hard Light lacks functionality in the current meta due to the removal of the Match Game modifier from in-game activities. Additionally, the Adaptive Munitions perk allows players to use legendary weapons that cause further damage to enemy shields without using an Exotic weapon slot. u/Corrupt96 suggests Hard Light should grant damage buffs after causing a shield explosion with a matching energy type. Moreover, the weapon may benefit from perks such as Voltshot and Incandescent, and other players suggest Hard Light should return to its Year 1 state where the weapon does not have damage drop off.

Before the launch ofDestiny 2: Lightfall, the Match Game modifier would make all enemy shields extra resistant to non-matching energy weapons and abilities in Vanguard playlist activities. The Hard Light Exotic’s main perk allows the weapon to cycle through Arc, Solar, and Void Energy types by holding down the reload button, making the weapon viable in activities that used the Match Game modifier. Since the removal of Match Game, many players have opted to use weapons with Adaptive Munitions and more powerful Exotic weapons instead.

Lightfall introduced several new weapons that offer compelling perks and greater usability acrossDestiny 2’shigh-level activities, leaving Hard Light in an undesirable place in the current meta. Although various updates adjusted the Exotic’s capabilities inDestiny 2, the weapon leaves much to be desired by players since the game itself underwent several changes. These changes include difficulty tuning, the removal and addition of modifiers, and reworked subclasses.

Destiny 2players should continue to voice their opinions about the Hard Light Exotic weapon since Bungie often reviews player feedback for future updates. Bungie may carefully consider a Hard Light revision if demand from players continues unabated. Until then,Destiny 2players may look forward to more weapons being introduced inSeason of the Deepand beyond.
