Destiny 2’s Guardian Games is an Olympic Games-like event that allows players to gather medals based on their performance in many activities and then deposit them in the Tower to boost the ranking of their favorite class. This system makes for a compelling gameplay loop where players can get loot simply by competing in the Guardian Games, all while supporting a class of their choice for a chance at winning the first place on the podium. Because the competition is class based, it’s important to have a representative character, known as a Vanguard, fromDestiny 2’s universe supporting Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks.
Titans and Warlocks have their representatives in Commander Zavala and Ikora Rey, respectively, but Hunters have been left without a leader ever since thedeath of Cayde-6 in theDestiny 2Forsaken expansionall the way back in 2018. As such,Destiny 2fans have been looking for potential candidates for the Hunter Vanguard position ever since. While there are a few suitable candidates in the form of characters like Crow and Ana Bray, other major Hunters like Shiro-4 and Lady Efrideet haven’t returned toDestiny 2.

Today, a trailer for the 2022 Guardian Games event was shared by Google Stadia, and it features a brief introduction for all three classes inDestiny 2as voiced by their representatives. Titans got a line from Zavala and Warlocks got one fromDestiny’sIkora Rey, which makes sense, but Hunters ended up getting a voice line from an unnamed character, which has fans hyped that this may potentially hint at the new Hunter Vanguard. The character states that Hunters often don’t get the appreciation they deserve, which might be a hint at Ana Bray becoming the Hunter Vanguard in the future.
This is because the line “We don’t always get the appreciation we deserve” is something Ana used to say while she was still a vendor on Mars after the Warmind DLC was released. The voice sounds the same, too. But it’s worth noting that Ana Bray’s voice actor was changed in Season of the Worthy, which could either mean that Ana Bray is going to return to a more prominent role and lead the Hunters or that someone else will. A likely candidate, based on how similar the voice sounds, isDestiny’s Lady Efrideet. This could also make sense given the recentevents inDestiny 2’s Season of the Risen involving Lord Saladin.
Still, this year’s version ofDestiny 2’s Guardian Games underwent many changesthat will make it more memorable as an event regardless of the fact that Hunters might finally get a new Vanguard. However, that would be the icing on the cake for many fans of the game, even those who don’t necessarily play a Hunter. Story developments forDestiny 2are always interesting, and this would be a big one indeed.
