Summary
On July 1, Capcom announced the official release date forDead Rising Deluxe Remasteras part of the NEXT showcase, but new information has emerged to suggest that the voice of Frank West has been recast ahead of the re-release. The main character, Frank West, sounded a lot different in the new trailer than he did in the original 2006 version ofDead Rising. At that time, Frank was voiced by Terence J. Rotolo, an actor also known for minor roles in Netflix’sThe Guiltyand the 2020 action/western filmDisturbing the Peace.
Rotolo provided the voice for Frank West inDead Rising,Dead Rising 2: Case West,Dead Rising 2: Off the Record,Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, andMarvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The character was absent from the franchise’s third direct sequel,Dead Rising 3, but Rotolo was replaced by Ty Olsson forDead Rising 4, Peter von Gomm forTatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, and Scott McNeil forPuzzle Fighter. Inthe 2015 live-actionDead Risingfilm, Frank was portrayed by retired United States Marine Rob Riggle.

According to an exchange shared byFrankByDaylighton Twitter, Rotolo responded to a fan’s inquiry as to why he wouldn’t be reprising his role as Frank forDead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Rotolo’s response was a fairly straightforward one, as he stated that Capcom simply never asked him to return, but elaborated on how he has enjoyed portraying the character thus far and expressed his affection for theDead Risingcommunity as a whole. “The answer to your question is I have no answer,” Rotolo said. “All I can say is that I’ve always been grateful for every opportunity to help bring Frank to life. An actor’s job when called upon is to show up prepared, deliver your best, and when done, move on to the next mission; I simply wasn’t called for the mission. The reasons are the producers' own.” While Capcom’s decision to leave out Rotolo is an interesting one, there’s still ways forDead Rising Deluxe Remasterto improve upon the franchise’s past mistakes.
Details regardingDead Rising Deluxe Remasterwere scarce prior to Capcom’s summer showcase, which also shared footage ofKunitsu-Gami: Path of the GoddessandResident Evil 7: Biohazardfor iOS and Mac. Capcom has now confirmed thatDead Rising Deluxe Remasterwill release on September 18. Developer Rysosuke Murai also announced thattheDead Risingremaster will run at 4K 60fpson the RE Engine, and will include the ability to move while aiming, as well as improvements to interactive NPCs to enhance the game’s atmosphere.
The lack of Terence J. Rotolo inDead Rising Deluxe Remastermay be a deal-breaker for some fans, while others will be more focused on the prospect of a newDead Risinggame. The last main game came in 2016 withDead Rising 4, a sequel that missed the mark both critically and commercially, even if it did have some ofthe best crafting in any horror game. With any luck,Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterwill be successful enough to revive the series, even without Rotolo.
