The Ascentis the debut release of indie game studio Neon Giant, being a twin-stick Action-RPG shooter that explores the dystopian world of Veles. It has vibrant aesthetic and design that appealed to certain gamers, with neon lights contrasting the grimy futuristic location. The game was released last year, though not without some issues during launch. Most of these revolved aroundThe Ascent’s Xbox Game Pass version, but despite those technical hurdles, some players enjoyed what was available in the game.
The Ascentwas signed to be a timed exclusive for the Xbox Series X, though it would also launch with a PC version last year. The game arriving on the Xbox Game Pass also helped its popularity, as the service is constantly adding new games to the service. With AAA hits likeScarlet Nexusto indie titles like this game being added to Game Pass regularly, it has become a popular service for gamers to partake in. With the game’s timed exclusivity nearly coming to an end, developer Neon Giant announced that it will be coming to Sony’s consoles very soon.
While anESRB rating did teaseThe Ascentwill be coming to PlayStation, an official trailer was posted to YouTube that formally announced that the game will be coming to both Sony consoles. Developers of the game, including Neon Giant studio head Arcade Berg said that he was “thrilled” to be bringing the former exclusive to these consoles. “We started making The Ascent because we love making games,” said Berg. “We want to share what we’ve made with as many gamers as possible in the hope that people enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
Players who pre-order either the PS4 and PS5 versions of the gamewill be receiving anexclusive weapon toThe Ascent, known as the RPEG 33. This is an energy-type Rocket Launcher with a unique laser sight. The laser sight will be colored blue, to match the PlayStation’s signature blue color scheme, which is also reflected in the launch trailer of the game.
Neon Giant also announced a variety of new DLC and updates that will be coming toThe Ascent’s PC version. One of these is the Cyber Warrior DLC Pack, which will give them two new weapons, a new tactical, weapon skins, as well as armor. More importantly however,The Ascentwill be receiving a New Game Plus mode for free, which promises to be a much more brutal challenge in comparison to the base game.
The Ascentis available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and PS5 versions will be launching June 15, 2025.
