Seven years after it was first revealed,Cyberpunk 2077is now only six days from release. All those years of buildup have led toCD Projekt RED’s next big open-world RPGbecoming one of the most highly-anticipated games in a long time, and a lot of gamers are going to want to experience its detailed world with the highest quality possible. That’s why they’ll be excited to know that the game will be receiving support for Dolby Vision technology, even if it won’t be available at launch.
The news comes courtesy of Dolby itself. This week, the audio/visual tech company tweeted thatCyberpunkwill be launching withDolby Atmossupport next week. As a refresher, or for those who don’t know, Atmos is Dolby’s 3D audio technology and is designed to provide improved surround sound by making sure the right sound frequencies come out of the right speakers, regardless of a user’s setup.

The tweet then confirmed that the game will receive support for Dolby Vision in 2021, which offers something similar to Atmos but withHigh Dynamic Range (HDR) monitors. The enhanced color-balancing the technology offers will be a welcome addition toCyberpunk’s visuals, and given how vibrant and detailed the futuristic metropolis of Night City is, the results are bound to be stunning.
However, in an interesting twist, it appears Dolby has backpedaled on its initial announcement regarding Vision support. The original tweet has since been deleted, and following that, the company clarified in a new post that whileDolby Vision will be coming to the Xbox Series Xnext year, no games have been confirmed to support it at this time.
This seems to go against what it was saying earlier this week, but it’s safe to assume at this point thatCyberpunk 2077is still planned to receive Dolby Vision support. What likely happened is that Dolby may have jumped the gun with the news, and now it’s holding off on making it official until a proper reveal, wherein it might show off the full slate of Xbox Series X games that will be supported at launch. When exactly this could happen, though, can only be guessed for the time being.
Although it will be a while more before players can experienceCyberpunkat its absolute best, only a few days remain before they can finally begin playing. Better yet,Xbox owners can now pre-downloadCyberpunkahead of launch on the Xbox app, that way they’ll be free to enter Night City the moment the gates open.
Cyberpunk 2077will be released on December 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions launching in 2021.
