Summary

There are many connections to last year’sCyberpunk: EdgerunnersinCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, including the surprise appearance of Stella Ramos - the sister of Sasha Yakovleva. Produced by famed anime house Studio Trigger in conjunction with CD Projekt Red,Edgerunnerstakes place before the events ofCyberpunk 2077and tells the tragic story of David Martinez, a young edgerunner who looks to make a name for himself on the rough streets of Night City.Cyberpunk: Edgerunnerswas met with near-universal acclaim for its stylish animation, gripping plot, and detailed worldbuilding - and this hashelped fuelCyberpunk 2077’s resurgencefollowing its infamous 2020 launch.

LaterCyberpunk 2077updates have added Easter eggs and other references toEdgerunners, starting with a small patch that heralded the show’s Netflix launch last September. Said patch gave players access to David’s signature jacket and Rebecca’s trademark shotgun as equippable items, as well as a drink named in the latter’s honor. This September’smassiveCyberpunk 2077Update 2.0added more references toCyberpunk: Edgerunners, such as a series of memorials players can visit to pay their respects to David and his crew. Sure enough, the subsequentCyberpunk 2077: Phantom LibertyDLC contained even more nods toEdgerunners, allowing players to explore several notable locations from the show.

According to Dexerto and the officialCyberpunk: EdgerunnersTwitter account, players can meet an NPC with deep connections to the anime near the beginning ofPhantom Liberty’s main storyline as well. During one ofPhantom Liberty’s side quests, V meets with a dark-haired NCPD officer named Stella Ramos. Both she and V hide from the drug lord Dodger and his goons by leaning back in a car near Dogtown’s entrance. Stella has more significance than it would seem at first glance, as she happens to be the older sister of Sasha Yakovleva - a member of Maine’s netrunner crew from before David Martinez joined them.

While she never appeared inCyberpunk: Edgerunnersproper, Sasha was featured prominently in a music video released to promote the show. In this video, Sasha goes off on her own to break intoCyberpunk 2077’s infamous Arasaka Corporationon an ill-advised mission - only to be killed for her troubles. She is then replaced by Lucy, one ofCyberpunk: Edgerunners’ main protagonists and the love interest of David.

Stella’s relationship with Sasha was confirmed by theCyberpunk: EdgerunnersTwitter account, which posted artwork of the sisters by Kuvshinov_iyla late last week. Very fewCyberpunk 2077players could have predicted such a connection toEdgerunnersinPhantom Liberty, but it is even more proof that both works are connected in the largerCyberpunkuniverse - which is set to continue in CDPR’s tentatively titled Project Orion.
