The animation quality has both stayed the same and gone up inCastlevania: Nocturneover its predecessor. The overall look is the same but the action is where things truly took off this season. There are more fights than perhaps the first two seasons of the original Netflix adaptation combined.
These fights fortunately don’t overstay their welcome either. They are quick, well-choreographed, and make sense when they pop up. Also, the gore is still present while the nudity has been turned down. That may be a bad change for some. In any case, here’s a breakdown of the best fight scenes inCastlevania: Nocturne.

8Julia Vs Olrox
TheCastlevaniaseries is one of the oldest in the medium as it began in 1986. There have beenmany Belmont charactersfeatured in the franchise but very few of them have been females. The only one of note is Sonia from Castlevania Legends which was a Game Boy game. That’s why it was cool to see another female Belmont kick butt via Richter’s mom, Julia. Unfortunately, her fight with Olrox in episode one ended with her death which traumatized Richter.
7An Interrupted Revolutionary Meeting
The Marquess is shown in episode one to not only bepartying with vampires, but he is a vampire too. After he hears some news about revolutionaries in the nearby woods, he sends some vampire guards to deal with them. That’s when the audience is introduced to the now grown-up version of Richter along with his friend, Maria, the sorceress.
The two of them, along with their revolutionary buddies, make quick work of these would-be vampire assassins. It’s always great to see half a vampire’s head get torn off with a whip in these anime adaptations ofCastlevania.
6Demons Appear
The finale of episodeone puts Richter, Maria, and her mother Tera in a pickle. Their house is swarmed by a bunch of demons which they are not familiar with. As they are veterans of vampire slaying, they put up a good fight against them although they are also saved by two newcomers.
Annette and Edouard arrived from across the sea, fleeing a vampire by the name of Vaublanc. Annette was Vaublanc’s slave, and Edouard, an opera singer, helped Annette escape his custody which understandably made Vaublanc quite angry.
5Showdown At The Chateau
Things move pretty fast in the first part of the anime as the group of heroes storm The Marquess chateau in episode two. Except for Tera, the others went there ona stealth missionbut Annette got too angry in the moment and got them all caught.
They then had to deal with a swarm of vampires which was too much even for them. They retreated to the woods but unfortunately, Edouard gets overtaken by vampires. That’s not even the worst of his fate inCastlevania: Nocturne as things become darker soon after.
4The Abbey’s Underbelly
In episode four, the vampire killing crew infiltrates the dungeons below The Abbey. It is here they find a bunch of demons caged up, just waiting to be unleashed unto the populace. Among the prisoners is the new demon form of Edouard who begins to remember who he is.
While Annette struggles with this tragic revelation, the others battle Drolta and several demons in a cramped space. It’s a frantic fight that ends with Richter running away upon Olrox’s arrival. He still isn’t over what Olrox did to his mom.
3Richter’s Awakening
The next few episodes are about the heroes coming to terms with their personal demons. The biggest arc comes with Richter who eventually meets his grandfather,Juste fromCastlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, who he thought was dead. Eventually, the two get perused and captured in episode six by Drolta’s bodyguard, Nikolai.
In a Super Saiyan-like moment, blue flames fire across Richter as he awakens his magical powers once again. While he absolutely annihilates his captors, Richter’s theme song fromCastlevania: Rondo of Bloodstarts playing which is a fun Easter Egg.
2Richter Returns
The human warriors are not the only characters inCastlevania: Nocturnethat suffered losses. The Marquess’ wife wants revenge for what they did to her husband. She’s so torn up about it that she refuses to let his head leave her side which is a bit creepy even for a vampire.
Tired of waiting for Erzsebet or any of the other leaders to do anything, The Marquess’ wife pursues and attacksMaria and Terain the middle of the night. Thankfully, Richter shows up just in time to help finish the fight in episode seven.
1Showdown At The Abbey
All roads lead back to The Abbey for the final fight in episode eight ofCastlevania: Nocturne. The team has a plan, which is divided into two divisions. Annette is tasked with going underground to free Edouard while trying to banish the demon forge back to hell.
Richter and Mizrak confront the vampires within The Abbey’s Mass Hall to rescue Maria all while Tera is chanting an incantation to help Annette banish the demon forge. Drolta is there leading the charge, stronger than ever before. It’s a climactic battle that doesn’t end on a good note. However, theappearance of Alucardfrom the firstCastlevaniaanime series spells out a positive outcome for season two.
