One of the impressive things about thePokemonseries is its enormous scope. As the world’s largest media franchise, its iconic pocket monsters have featured in games and anime toplushies that resemble Squishmallows. In addition, the series has become famous for its collectible card game called Pokemon TCG.
Unfortunately, this popularity has had some unfortunate side effects for aspiring card collectors. Over the past couple of years, the prices of many of these cards on the resale market have risen substantially causing some cards to be valued for hundreds of dollars and in some cases even more. Recently, one card collector took their passion forPokemon TCGtoo far and got in trouble with the law in the process.

First reported in an article from The Signal on July 19, 2025, it was revealed that a man had stolenPokemoncardsfrom a store. Entering a card shop known as SCV Card Connection on Wednesday in Newhall, California, the man was able to rob the store, managing to leave with over $2,000 of Pokemon TCG cards in his possession. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries. In addition, the article noted that the man did not use a firearm.
Following the robbery, the SCV Card Connection notified the authorities, and deputies from the local police department made it to the store around noon. One person from the department named Deputy Natalie Arriaga commented on the robbery. “On April 13 at approximately 11:45 a.m., a call for service was received regarding a male white adult reportedly (stealing)Pokemoncards,” she said.
It is worth mentioning that the name of the man was not revealed. As of the time of writing, the person behind the robbery has not been caught, and there have yet to be any suspects or arrests in relation to the crime. Unfortunately, this means that the valuablePokemoncards are likely still in the possession of the thief and have not been recovered by authorities.
Sadly, this is not the first time someone has tried tosteal valuablePokemoncards. At the beginning of this year, another man attempted to rob a local Florida Walmart and ultimately managed to leave with hundreds of dollars ofPokemoncards in his pockets. However, the bold criminal returned to the scene of the crime several days later and was subsequently caught trying to steal even more Pokemon TCG cards. While this type of behavior is obviously inexcusable, it does show the popularity ofPokemoncard collecting. Hopefully, more fans will be able to get their hands on these cards in the coming days (legally, of course).
