Throughout their time in Hyrule, the player will meet all sorts of NPCs, take on all sorts of side quests, and learn all kinds of skills. However, not all of these skills are immediately obvious to the player. Among those skills is diving. It should be noted that diving inBreath Of The Wildis not a means to underwater exploration as in previousZeldagames, it simply triggers a graceful diving animation that is helpful for a particular side quest.
How To Dive in Breath Of The Wild
The first step to diving inBreath Of The Wildis finding a suitable spot to dive from. Diving can only be done from a high ledge over water, though there is some variation on what constitutes a ‘high ledge’. It seems, from experimenting, that anything taller than Linkshould be suitable for triggering the dive animation.

Once the player has found a suitable ledge, diving is pretty simple. The player must run up to the ledge, hit X to jump, and A to trigger the diving animation. Nothing will appear on-screen, so the timing can be pretty tricky to pin down. Luckily, diving isn’t necessary foranything but one side quest. It doesn’t take too long to master, and there are plenty of opportunities to practice.
‘Diving is Beauty!’ Side Quest
The game keys players in on this diving mechanic through a side quest called ‘Diving is Beauty!’. This side quest can be started by speaking to Gruve, a Zorathat can be found in Zora’s Domain. Gruve will ask Link to dive down the waterfall he is next to and swim back up it (using the Zora armor). Speaking to Gruve after doing this will complete the side quest, and Link will receive five Fleet-Lotus Seeds as a reward.
