After stumbling into The Butcher, oneDiablo 4player realizes that this boss isn’t quite as difficult as it should be. The latest game in the long running and immensely popular Diablo franchise is again filled with monstrous enemies for players to take down. Continuing the series trend, Diablo 4 also has seemingly no shortage of unique enemies and bosses to take down including newly addedworld bosses like the deadly Ashava.

One of the morefearsome secret bosses ofDiablo 4is The Butcher, a classic enemy that has now appeared in nearly every game in the franchise outside ofDiablo 2. WhileDiablo 3turned it into a full-fledged Act boss, The Butcher’s role has been relegated somewhat in Diablo 4, though the enemy is now more deadly because of it. Instead of being in a farmable location, the Butcher is a rare roaming spawn in dungeons, though one player ran into a bug that removed the terror aspect from this iconic boss.

Over on theDiablo 4subReddit, a user named JasperSnail posted a video of a boss fight against the Butcher in the Ancient’s Lament dungeon. While encountering The Butcher can lead to some tough moments for the player, in this case, JasperSnail seemingly got a pacifist version. Instead of attacking the player outright, the Butcher seemed more interested in survival after its health dropped by 10% as it continually tried to get away from the player, opting to run rather than attack.

Naturally, this behavior slowed the fight down immensely as JasperSnail could only chase with their Werebear Druid. Comments had a bit of a laugh at this encounter, with many calling out that the Butcher’s AI was seemingly replaced by aDiablo 4Treasure Goblin, an NPC which would rather escape the player than engage with them. Others assumed it was The Butcher who was the NPC exploring a dungeon when the player attacked them. One other player noted the same behavior, but after getting to a certain point in their health bar, the AI seemingly woke up and fought back.

It’s clear that the player may have gotten a bit lucky finding a Butcher that had no intention of fighting back. While it can be hard to find while playing, The Butcher has proven to be a thorn in the side of many players, causing nearly 2% of all deaths inDiablo 4which, at the time, translated to nearly 6 million player kills. Part of the reason why The Butcher can be so difficult is the randomness of the spawn, perhaps appearing when a player is more weakened and unprepared than if they were heading to a more traditional boss room in a dungeon or campaign mission.

Diablo 4is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
