The Quarryis Supermassive Games' latest release in their portfolio of interactive horror games likeUntil DawnandThe Dark Pictures Anthology. With it comes ahost of new characterswho, by the end of the game, will come out alive having survived the evil of the night or been killed in a variety of brutal ways. It’s up to the player to decide each camp counselor’s fate and how they react to the horrors they’ll face.

The Quarryplays into the tropes of classic horror movies, including cliché character types. Many of the camp counselors are endearing and lovable despite their quirks, although a few are a little harder to sympathize with regardless of the grisly circumstances.
9Emma: The Influencer
Emma is an aspiring influencer and the love interest of Jacob who can accompany her for adecent chunk of the story. As an influencer, it’s no surprise that Emma is drawn to opportunities for content as well as inciting some drama in the group when it suits her, providing much of the early conflict inThe Quarryand helping to kickstart the carnage that unfolds.
Despite her tendency to bring out the worst in those around her, especially Jacob, Emma is capable and, depending on the players' choices, independent, brave, and thrives under pressure. Emma lets her guard down around Abigail which is where her warmer side shines through, but her idea on how to help her friend win over Nick is questionable.

8Jacob: The Jock
Jacob plays into the Jock trope seen in countless teen horror movies who are full of bravado and quick to throw hands when they feel threatened. Jacob is spellbound by Emma who he tries to win back after she dumps him, and there’s probably an argument to be made that much of his poor behavior is a result of him failing to come to terms with the rejection.

Jacob can be a little thick-skulled, which leads to him blundering into situations without thinking them through. While he may appear one-note on the surface, underneath his macho persona, there’s a charming, albeit insecure, guy with a big heart who cares about his friends.
7Nick: The Nice Guy
Nick is the closest thing to an Everyman inThe Quarry, with him being fairly unremarkable in terms of defining character traits. He’s considered by the group as a nice guy with many of the characters rooting for him and Abigail to finally act upon their mutual crush.
Nick is a mild-mannered and well-intentioned guy who manages to keep calm when faced with the horrors of the night. However, his lack of agency means that he fades into the background most of the time until certain events thrust his character into a new direction.

6Abigail: The Quiet Girl
Abigail is the timidest member of the group and lacks some of the confidence that her friends possess, causing her to fall to the wayside and follow the majority a lot of the time. She has a crush on Nick but is oblivious to the fact that he likes her back, a dynamic that inspires some sweet and awkward interactions between the pair.
Abigail can hold her own though and when it’s required of her – she steps up to the plate to help her friends even if she isn’t the one to lead them. Abigail tends to be agreeable and compliant, but there are moments when she’s sarcastic or challenges those around her.

5Ryan: The Loner
When players first meet Ryan, he’s stoic and broody, only offering input when he’s directly asked. He’s indifferent to drama but is usually the first in line to remind his friends about the rules as he respects and looks up to Chris Hackett who’s like a father figure to him.

Ryan is one of the characters who see the most development throughout the night as he becomes the group’s impromptu leader. Ryan isn’t a natural-born leader, though, with him panicking and showing uncertainty in many situations, but he takes on the task at hand regardless. Depending on how players choose, he can play a big part inwhat ending they get.
4Max: The Loyal Boyfriend
Max is Laura’s boyfriend, and it’s clear why she’s with him as he proves to be reliable, charming, and quick to crack a joke despite the pair’s less than ideal situation. Max and Laura’s relationship is one of the best developed in the game and their loyalty to one another, depending on certain decisions, is unwavering.
However, while he may put on a brave face for Laura, Max is just as scared as the other counselors. He is also one of the more pessimistic members of the group, with his outlook on events and the possibility of getting out alive diminishing quickly.

3Kaitlyn: The Social Butterfly
Kaitlyn is smart, resourceful, and a natural leader who gets on well with everyone in the group. Socializing is effortless for her as she can build rapport quickly with just about everyone in the game. She also has a relaxed approach to things and rarely panics, instead, being the voice of reason in stressful situations.
At first, Kaitlyn appears to be a background character with little playtime compared to the others, but the later events of the night allow her to step up. She becomes the unofficial second in command, frequently offering an alternative opinion, and ensuring that her friends are safe above all else.

2Dylan: The Class Clown
When players are first introduced to Dylan, he’s dry and sarcastic with a blasé attitude; this makes him quite polarizing as he doesn’t seem to take anything seriously. However, as the game progresses, players learn more about Dylan and discover that there’s a lot more to him than he initially shows.

Dylan is easily the most relatable character and his relationships with Kaitlyn and Ryan provide some of the best interactions in the game. Dylan overcompensates his personality to fit in but once players scratch beneath the surface, they’ll find an intelligent, caring, and selfless guy who can more than hold his own in a crisis.
1Laura: The Girl Next Door
Laura is the classic horror movie heroine as she quickly proves herself as the most capable of all the counselors. Laura is fiercely devoted to her boyfriend, Max, with much of her drive and motivation stemming from their love for one another.
Laura proves time and time again that she can apply herself and uses both her brains and brawn to escape danger. Although she begins the game as a little naive and docile, Laura quickly adapts to her new situation and becomes a no-nonsense badass much like herspiritual predecessor, Sam fromUntil Dawn.

The Quarryis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
