Battlefield 2042is making some important changes compared to previous modern releases within theBattlefieldfranchise, The biggest isBattlefield 2042’s highly anticipated 128-player multiplayer mode, though it’s not the only one. Another new feature that’s stirring up a lot of conversation amongBattlefieldplayers is the decision to add third-person melee executions. While at first reception to the decision was positive, nowBattlefieldfans are asking for the change to be reverted inBattlefield 2042.
A thread on Reddit with over 6.2 thousand upvotes asks theBattlefieldcommunity if they’d like forBattlefield 2042to offer an option for executions to be in first-person. The thread is full of comments that agree, saying that they’d prefer to be able to perform melee finishers in first-person. The issue isn’t with executions in general, but largely with them being third-person.Battlefieldfansare otherwise fine with losing control of their character so that the execution animation can play out - so long as it happens from the perspective they are used to.

As justification for wantingBattlefield 2042to offer first-person executions, two core reasons stand out. First, players believe it’s a more “personal” experience, which is somewhat of an unsettling way to put an execution. That said, if players mean it’s more immersive, then that’s much more understandable. Having afast-paced shooter experience likeBattlefield 2042suddenly change perspective can be disorienting at the very least.
The second reason cited by players is that they think it’s a feature ofBattlefieldthat stands out compared toCall of Duty. That’s not to sayCall of Dutywas the first to do third-person executions, butCall of Dutycertainly does it now. Just the fact that it’s afeature inCall of Dutyis enough forBattlefieldfans to not want the feature inBattlefield 2042.
The discontent with third-person executions is quite surprising.Third-person melee executions inBattlefield 2042were first confirmed in mid-August. and at the time seemed to be a popular decision. Now that there’s gameplay showing what the animations look like, however,Battlefieldfans seem much less inclined to support it.
At this point in time, it’s unlikely that EA DICE will be able to add an option for first-person executions for launch - if at all. Not only doesBattlefield 2042release in less than two months, but the addition of third-person executions is guaranteed to be part of the game’s monetization plans. That is, execution animations will likely be sold or given out inBattlefield 2042’s battle pass. Still, there’s always the possibility that EA DICE listens to feedback on the matter and adds an option later on.
Battlefield 2042releases October 22 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
