During Act 1 ofBaldur’s Gate 3, players will learn that Wyll isa Warlock of the Fiend, bound in service to the Archdevil Zariel by way of her servant, Mizora. He entered the pact to save lives, but that doesn’t mean he has to like it.

In fact, players have the opportunity to break this pact of service for good. Doing so isn’t easy, however, and it isn’t without its sacrifices, but bythe end ofBaldur’s Gate 3, Wyll can be completely free of his fiendish obligations.

Updated on June 23, 2025, by Nahda Nabiilah: Severing Wyll’s pact withMizora in Baldur’s Gate 3can have significant consequences for his companion’s quest, especially when it comes to locating and saving his father. There are several outcomes and routes that players can discover in this task, and this guide has been updated with a video to better project the steps for the mission.

Mizora’s Request

The first time players end the day during Act 2, Mizora will appear as a projection and give Wyll a quest. The forces of the Absolute have captured a powerful “asset” of Zariel, andWyll must enter Moonrise Towers and rescue them. If Wyll refuses or fails in this rescue, his contract will drag him to Hell and turn him into a Lemure, a low-ranking devil mostly used as fodder inThe Blood War.

However, if the protagonist passesa very easy Perception check, they’ll realize that Mizora is unusually desperate. This means they can afford to demand more from her since she’s in no position to refuse. Players can ask for her to end Wyll’s pact if the party succeeds, although they must pass an Intimidation, History, or Performance check against a DC of 14 to convince her. Still, she’ll insist on ending the pact after the rescue, not before.

Where to Find Zariel’s Asset

Players won’t find the “asset” until they reach theMind Flayer Colony. This area only opens up once the partydefeats Ketheric Thormon the roof of Moonrise Towers. The Mind Flayer Pod to look for is in the Tadpoling Center, and it’s on its own next to the brine pools.

As it turns out, the asset is Mizora herself, who got captured while investigating the Absolute. The active party membermust pass easy Arcana checkstoidentify the devices to the left and the right of Mizora, then decide which one to activate. The “annihilate” device might look tempting, but Wyll’s contract won’t end with Mizora’s death. Instead, he’ll get dragged down to Hell the instant Mizora dies. The active character can alsoroll a Strength check against 14to break the pod open.

Still, Mizora has one more trick up her sleeve: according to the terms of the contract, Mizora has six months before she has to end it. This means Wyll will remain a Warlock of the Fiend for at least the rest of the campaign.

After getting the bad news, players can choose aPersuasion check, alsoagainst a 14. If the speaker passes,Mizora will give the party the Infernal Rapier. This is a +2 rapier that adds +1 to the wielder’s spell save DC and lets them add their main spellcasting ability modifier instead of Dexterity or Strength. On top of that, the wielder can use the spellPlanar Ally: Cambiononce per long rest. This is an excellent weapon for Wyll, even if players don’t give him the Pact of the Blade class feature.

The Impossible Choice

Even if players successfully negotiate an end to Wyll’s pact in Act 2, Mizora isn’t done with him yet. When the party reaches Wyrm’s Rock Fortress, they’ll find Mizora standing by the base of the stairs up to the Audience Chamber. She won’t say why she’s here until the party goes up to watch Lord Gortash’s coronation. After that, and after the party descends back down the stairs, she’ll start a conversation automatically.

Although players just saw Grand Duke Ravengard declare Gortash the new archduke, Mizora will explain that Gortash has quickly relocated Ravengard to a location she doubts the party will find. However, she knows where it is and how to help.

If Wyll breaks the pact during Act 2, the next time players end the day, Mizora and two witnesses will appear in the camp. Mizora will tell Wyll where to find his father and help protect him, but only if Wyll permanently signs away his soul to Mizora and Zariel. If Wyll refuses, Mizora guarantees that Ravengard’s enemies will kill him. Wyll is conflicted, and so it’s up to the protagonist to make the choice for him.

Players can also ask what will happen to Wyll’s powers. Mizora will mention “Addendum F,” which saysWyll will keep his Warlock abilitiesuntil the Absolute is dead. In other words,he’ll remain a Warlock no matter what until the end of the game. Mizora will also hang out in the party camp whether Wyll renews the pact or not, at least until the player ejects her.

If Wyll agrees to the pact, Mizora will tell the party where to go to reach theunderwater prison of the Iron Throne, and once the party gets there and reaches Ravengard’s cell, she’ll apply some buff spells to help him escape. If Wyll ends the pact, the party can still find their way to the Iron Throne, and Ravengard will be alive, but once he’s freed, Mizora will summon six explosive spiders to try and kill him. This makes the situation more dangerous, but the party can still get him out alive.

If players rescue Ravengard while breaking the pact, Mizora will ruefully congratulate the player, but aDetect Thoughtscheck will reveal that she’s already plotting her next attempt on Duke Ravengard’s life. Still, this gives father and son an opportunity to reconcile, and it gives the party a chance to hear about a fearsome dragon who might be able to help against the Absolute’s army.

Notably, players can also rescue the grand dukewithout Wyll in the party. In this case, Mizora wouldn’t interfere in either direction. The only time players will find Ravengard dead by the time they arrive at the Iron Throne is if they get Mizora’s offer but don’t resolve the pact decision before reaching the prison.
