The latest episode ofPokemon Journeyssees Ash Ketchum catching himself a Galarian Farfetch’d. Funny enough,Galarian Farfetch’dis the first Pokemon this season Ash has caught with ties to the Galar region, even though this season takes place during a time when thePokemongames have made Galar its primary focus.
Ash catches thePokemonin the 27th episode of the season titled “A Heroic Legend! Dande’s Ultimate Battle” in Japan. The episode sees Ash and Go return to the Galar Region to see a World Coronation Match between two trainers in the Master Class: Galar Champion Leon and Gym Leader Raihan.

Once the battle finishes, Ash and Go meetSonia — the granddaughter ofPokemon SwordandShield’s Professor Magnolia— for the first time, and learn some lore surrounding Gigantamaxing. The two then decide to catch some new Pokemon before making their way back to the Kanto region. As luck would have it, the duo runs across Ash’s future Galarian Farfetch’d, who’s been randomly challenging trainers.
The bird ends up defeating Go before challenging Ash and losing. Ash doesn’t capture it yet, though, deciding instead to take it back to the Pokemon Center for healing. After Farfetch’d is patched up, Ash asks it to join him on his journey, and it accepts. Ash caught the Farfetch’d with his recently obtained Riolu, so Farfetch’d accepting Ash’s invitation not only makes itAsh and Riolu’s first official victory together, but the first Pokemon Riolu itself has assisted in capturing.
Farfetch’d is quite possibly the least expected Pokemon fans would imagine Ash catching, which is saying something for this season. So far, all Ash has done is catch unexpected but pleasantly surprising Pokemon, like his Gengar.
Galar Farfetch’d’s evolution, Sirfetch’d, is one of the most popular new additions toPokemon. If the season keeps up giving Ash popular Pokemon, fans may get to see Farfetch’d evolve into Sirfetch’d later on down the line. Ash usually has a tendency to avoid evolving his Pokemon, but he used to avoid catching them, too, and that’s obviously changed this season.
The next episode ofPokemon Journeyswill feature Sobble, and it plans to have Ash and Go battle Team Rocket while trying to resist crying due to Sobble’s influence. Since the episode will be Sobble’s first appearance in the anime, Ash may end up catching it as well. Although, since he did just catch Farfetch’d, Sobble may end up with Go, or Team Rocket might end up with a victory this time and get Sobble for themselves. It does seem like the perfect type of Pokmon for James.
