As part of the lead up to the launch of Season 4 inApex Legends, Respawn Entertainment dropped a brand new “Stories from the Outlands” animated short of an interview with the supposedupcoming Season 4 Legend Forge. The interview concludes in such a way that may be shocking to those fans not following or reading the leaks that have come out about Forge so far this season.
A screenshot of Revenant behind Forge, from the trailer seen below, leaked two days ago, so manyApex Legendsfans already assumed Forge was going to bite the dust whenever this trailer officially launched, but seeing it in action is certainly something else. But what does Forge’s supposed death in this trailer mean for the start of Season 4 and for Revenant? And why is theApexcommunity still divided even after this trailer?

Is Forge Really Dead?
According to the officialApex Legendswebsite, yes, Forge is really dead. The site reads “Your Champion Has Fallen. A mysterious Legend, new weapon, fresh Battle Pass, updates to Ranked, and much more await in Apex Legends Season 4 – Assimilation” clearly indicating that Forge is no more and this new mysterious Legend (Revenant) will be coming to the games. In addition to that confirmation, Forge’s death box is lying in Sorting Factory, containing his iconic medallion that players can take and turn into a weapon charm. This is the same medallion that can be seen inall of Forge’s character art.
However, some fans still hope that Forge is somehow alive despite the live broadcast murder. The reasoning for this is that comes in a few parts. For one, his medallion in-game has a text that may have some clues on it. The medallion reads:

“This one-of-a-kind genuine limited-run commemorative facsimile is the perfect way to pay your respects to the fallen favored son of the Outlands, the often imitated but never defeated except for the one time Hyper-Fighting Federation champion Jimmy ‘Forge’ McCormick. Gone but not forgotten”
The suspicious part to some fans is the repetition of the medal being fake and that Forge was “often imitated” leading some to believe that the victim may have been a body double. This is combined with some observations from the trailer regarding Forge’s appearance. In his character art, Forge does not have a scar over his eye, but in the trailer he does. It’s a large detail that would be hard to write off as “artistic interpretation” on either the character artists or the animator’s behalf.

For the first time ever, Respawn is introducing Ranked Splits for Season 4. The first half of the Ranked season (February 4 - March 23) will be played on World’s Edge, while the second half (March 24 - May 5) will be played on thereturning King’s Canyonmap. At surface level, this is designed to give Ranked a refresh to keep things interesting for the remainder of the season. But many players speculate that this would be the perfect time to introduce a second legend. Lore-wise, it would give Forge enough time to prepare for the games and to plan a grand entrance for himself, assuming he’s ready to take on Revenant.
Will Revenant Come in Season 4?
All signs currently point to Revenant joining the Apex Games in Season 4. Fromwhat is known about Revenantso far, he is a pretty well-developed character in the datamine already, so it’s not a long stretch to say that he will get his final update at the start of Season 4. However, datamined information should be taken with a grain of salt as all those files are still in-development and are not actually live yet. There is even a possible finisher labeled “revenant_impale_execution” which could be similar to what Revenant did to Forge in the trailer.
Datamine aside, most of Season 4’s imagery features Revenant’s black and red color scheme which makes a good case for the spooky simulacrum. Why Revenant has a vendetta against Hammond Robotics is still a mystery, butApex Legendshas a way of telling stories throughout the season, so if Revenant is the focus, that information is sure to come to light quickly. Revenant could be one big shakeup to the Legend meta which is one of thethingsApex Legendsneeds in Season 4.
Season 4 Theories and Hopes
The Forge/Revenant feud certainly came to a seemingly climactic conclusion today with the latest trailer, but what does that mean going forward? Well theApexLegendswebsite is leading players to believe that Revenant is the new face of Season 4, and they very well could be. The theme for this season is Assimilation, hinting at some sort of merging or taking in of something. It could be referencing Revenant assimilating into The Games, or it could be referencing something has yet to be unveiled. It could also be Hammond Robotics invading World’s Edge with whatever is falling from the sky in-game. The leading theory is that the device is a harvester designed to rip the world of its minerals.
If Forge is still alive, then there is a chance he will be coming back for revenge after the attack (assuming he was even the one attacked to begin with). With Season 4 marking the one year anniversary ofApex Legends, it would be the perfect time for Respawn to introduce two legends in a season as opposed to the usual one. Adding more Legends is commonplace inApex, and one of the many things players canexpect fromApex Legendsin 2020, but releasing two at once would certainly be a shock.
Season 4 of Apex Legends launches next week so there isn’t much more time before these fan theories are either confirmed or debunked. As it stands now, Forge is in the ground and Revenant is likely coming to the Apex Games at the start of the season. Players will be able to explore the new map changes and try out the new legend, whoever it may be, afterredeeming their anniversary gifts. But until the season launches, or Respawn comes out to give players some concrete information (and not just a clever deception), the community will continue to argue about who the next legend will be.
