The Halloween season is an exciting time for gamers. Typically, many game developers go all in for the spooky season, updating their games to include all sorts of ghostly items. One developer that has done this over the past 2 years is Respawn Entertainment withApex Legends. However, with the launch of the battle royale’snew Monsters Within Event, many fans are left wanting more from the developers.

In a Reddit post, a user known as WanderWut shared a picture from the2019 Halloween event inApex Legends. This previous Halloween event, known as Fight or Fright, introduced the LTM Shadowfall, along with many ghoulish cosmetics. According to the Reddit user, the current Monsters Within Event was underwhelming compared to past Halloween events, lacking many features found in previous iterations. They used the picture of the 2019 event as an example of “what a real Halloween event looks like.”

WanderWut pointed out various features missing from the most recentApex Legendsevent. While past Fight or Fright events had a creepy lobby that featured Shadow Form Legends glaring menacingly in the background, the Monsters Within Event failed to include a Halloween-themed lobby screen. In addition, limited-time events often brought new music tracks, but this most recent event lacked a spooky new theme. Furthermore, the Reddit user mentioned that previous games had clever skin designs, such as The Last Laugh skin for Caustic, but they felt that many of the new skins for the 2021 event fell short compared to previous Halloween skins.

Many in theApex Legendscommunity on Reddit agreed with WanderWut and their negative assessment of the Monsters Within Event. With over 24,000 upvotes, many fans were nostalgic for the content from the past Halloween events in the battle royale. Some players claimed they didn’t even realize the Monsters Within Event was going on at first due to the lack of a spooky lobby screen. In addition, some pointed out the battle pass challenges seemed broken as one tasked the player with playing 2 games of Shadow Royale, a mode not available until next week.

It’s unfortunate to see a highly anticipated event turn out to be underwhelming for many players. It will be interesting to see if the developers listen to feedback from the community and attempt to deliver a better experience for the next seasonal event, presumably the third edition ofthe Holo-Day Bash.

Besides the Monsters Within Event inApex Legends, several other battle royale games are hosting Halloween-themed events. Recently,Fortnitemares began inFortnite, bringing many spooky skins to the game. Of particular interest are skins based on the classic movie monsters Frankenstein and The Mummy. In addition,Call of Duty: Warzonestarts The Haunting, another Halloween event, on October 19.

Apex Legendsis available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
