Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniafinally gave audiences a better idea of what the Marvel heroes will be up against regarding their newest threat. According to one of the concept artists who worked on the movie, there are some unique powers that Kang the Conqueror almost got to utilize in the film.

Created by Marvel legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby,Kang the Conqueror’s history with Marvelgoes back to 1963 when he was introduced as Rama-Tut inFantastic Four#19, a time traveler who used his powers to conquer Ancient Egypt. In 1964, Rama-Tut took on the identity of Kang. While the first iteration of Kang to appear in the comics was Nathaniel Richards, the name “Kang” has been adopted by many different characters. Jonathan Majors has already appeared as a few of these versions of Kang in the Marvel Studio showLokiand the mid-credits scene forAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaand is set to reprise those roles in future Marvel Studios moviesAvengers: The Kang DynastyandAvengers: Secret Wars.

WhileKang will undoubtedly have plenty of timeto show off his powers, fans were almost treated to a particularly unique ability inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Concept artistAleksi Briclotrecently shared images he had created while working on the movie. Shared as an Instagram reel, the images show Kang summoning spectral versions of himself and shooting some kind of ray or beam from his head. In the caption, Briclot clarified what was happening in the pictures, saying “Exploring Kang’s superpowers in a short sequence. Him being able to summon some ghosts of himself. And blast in different directions…Thinking about motion, gesture, animation, and what it could look like on screen. As a sequence.”

While the MCU version of Kang seems to be more than a mere mortal, the comic version has never had superpowers. In every comic appearance, Kang is an incredibly intelligent scientist who utilizes 40th-century technology to fight the Marvel heroes. So far, the MCU seems to continue this trend, with Kang using neuro-kinetic armor inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniato fight Ant-Man. InLoki, the version of Kangthat goes by He Who Remains revealed he had harnessed the powers of a being named Alioth who could consume time and space. So, while the concept art seems to suggest that the version of Kang that fought Ant-Man in the Quantum Realm could have superpowers, it remains unclear if that was the plan or if those powers would still be based on futuristic technology.

What also remains unclear is Majors’future as Kang the Conqueror. Earlier this year, Majors was arrested following the alleged assault of his girlfriend. Although Majors has not been convicted of any crimes yet, the incident has led fans to question if Majors will be removed from the MCU. No announcements have been made by Marvel Studios, so fans will have to wait to see what the studio will decide. No matter who plays Kang, it seems like the character has much more in store for Marvel’s heroes.
