InAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsthe player receives an app on their Nookphone detailing “Nook Miles tasks” for them to complete toearn Nook Miles, a special currency that can be exchanged for a number of in-game goods that cannot be bought with bells (the main currency). Most Nook Miles tasks are completed fairly easily and all are designed to be finished through normal gameplay, however not all tasks are created equal.

This list will cover the ten most difficult Nook Miles tasks to complete across all tiers of completion and will exclude any single-tiered tasks.

10Fruit Roots

The Fruit Roots task requires the player to plant one of each of the six fruit trees on their island. Each fruit tree is worth 100, 200, 300, 500, 700, and 1000 Nook Miles (each tree does not have a specific value, it is just in ascending order).

This task can be quite difficult for those playing single-player and not using online play. This is because without visiting other player’s islands, getting the other types of fruits is reduced to pure chance, as they can only be obtained from Nook Miles islands, which are random and may not even have fruit trees at all. Coupling that with how expensive the Nook Miles Tickets can be, makes this quite a difficult task.

9Cast Master

The Cast Master task asks the player to reel in 10, then 50, then 100 fish in a continuous chain (no misses or escaping fish). The tasks are worth 300, 500, and 1000 Nook Miles respectively.

This task is difficult for those that are not good at the game’s reflex-based fishing mechanics and because catching trash (or eggs on Bunny Day) can break the player’s streak, even though they successfully caught a “fish.” With no visible difference between the trash items and fish, the player has to pick and choose which shadows to go after for this task.

8Greedy Weeder

The Greedy Weeder task requires that the player sell the weeds they pull up on the islands. They must first sell 50, then 200, 1000, 2000, and finally 3000. Each task is worth 300, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Nook Miles respectively.

At the beginning of the game, this task is not too difficult with weeds littering the island and the low milestones, however, it becomes more difficult as the game progresses. Due to the scarcity of weeds, once the player initially removes them, the player will need to wait a long time or visit the Nook Miles islands. This is far from economical if someone’s only goal is to pick weeds.

7Nook Miles for Miles

The Nook Miles for Miles task asks that the player complete the Nook Miles + sections of tasks, a random and endless assortment of small tasks worth fewer Miles each, all related to larger tasks. Each level is worth 300, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Nook Miles, in order.

This task is difficult due to the sheer number of tasks the player is asked to complete. The tasks begin at 5, then 50, 200, 1000 and jumps up to a staggering 3000 tasks for the final level. All tasks are smaller and easier than standard tasks (as well as being part of larger tasks, meaning the player will likely want to perform them anyway), but the immense number of them makes this a difficult and time-consuming Nook Miles task to complete.

6Shady Shakedown

The Shady Shakedown task requires that the player shake trees that have furniture items hidden in their leaves. Each level is worth 300, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 5000, in ascending order.

This task becomes difficult and time-consuming due to the scarcity of these trees. They can be any tree on the island and have no identifying features (with the trees changing daily). The player can also only find a max two of them per day, meaning if they shake every tree and get lucky enough to find them both in a short period, the player can complete the task in a minimum of 50 days.

5Rough-hewn

The Rough-hewn task asks that the player chop trees for wood, using the ax tool. Each task is worth 300, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Miles, in ascending order.

This task is difficult due to the sheer volume of wood the player is asked to chop for the final tasks, with the final milestone being 5000 wood chopped. Whilst this is not an incredibly difficult task to perform, it is a tedious task due to its lengthy and monotonous nature.

4DIY Furniture

The DIY Furniture task asks the player to craft various furniture items from DIY recipes. Each task is worth the standard 300, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Miles in progression order.

The difficulty comes from its later levels, being to craft 1000 and then 3000 pieces of DIY furniture. The total amount of pieces needing to be crafted, as well as the huge amount of raw materials that are required to craft them, means this task requires a large amount of resource grinding to complete.

3Bug’s Don’t Bug Me

The Bugs Don’t Bug Me task requires the player to capture every bug available in the game. Each level of this task is worth 300, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Miles, in order.

This task is difficult due to how rare some bugs are, with some requiring very specific conditions, times, or weather to appear. Catching them all can take a long amount of time, and a lot of effort from the player.

2Island Ichthyologist

The Island Ichthyologist task asks that the playercatch every fishavailable in the game. Each level of this task is worth 300, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Miles, in the order of progression.

This task is just as difficult as the previous, however, it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between fish before they are caught (besides the size of their shadows), unlike bugs that can all be identified immediately. As a result, it can be quite a difficult and lengthy task to complete.

1Golden Milestone

The Golden Milestone task requires the player to obtain all six of theGolden Toolsin the game. The first two tasks are worth 300 and 500 Miles, while the rewards for the remaining four tasks are unknown.

Gaining the Golden Tools is commonly seen among players as one of the most difficult tasks in the game, requiring players to catch all critters and having a 5-star island among other things. If any of the Nook Miles tasks deserve to be seen as the pinnacle, it’s this one.
